Conrad Munster Obituary

Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Conrad H. Munster, U.S. Army, distinguished Vietnam Veteran and Black Forest resident, passed 16 September 2007. Colonel Munster was born in Bronx, New York on 2 April 1932. On 8 June 1955, Colonel Munster received his Army commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Field Artillery upon his Reserve Officers Training Corps graduation from Fordham University. His military experience spanned 24 years of dedicated service at various levels of command and staff. Colonel Munster's last military assignment was with Joint Support Group, United States Army Element, North American Air Defense Command (NORAD), Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Colonel Munster was authorized to wear the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2nd Oak Leaf), Air Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (with 3 Bronze Service Stars), Vietnam Campaign Medal (with 60 Device), Vietnam Cross of Gallantry (with Palm), the Parachutist Badge, and the Combat Infantryman Badge. Colonel Munster is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Claire; a daughter, Margaret A. (Peg) Krier; three sons - Colonel Conrad H. (Buzz) Munster, Jr.; Lieutenant Colonel Patrick M. (Pete) Munster; Major Matthew G. (Matt) Munster, and four grandsons and four granddaughters who he loved and cherished deeply, as well as his older brother George H. Munster. Visitation will be from 5:30PM to 6:30PM, Thursday at Swan Law Funeral Directors in Colorado Springs. Mass will be offered at 0900AM on Friday at Our Lady of the Pines, in Black Forest. A private burial will be held Monday at Fort Logan National Cemetery with full military honors.
