Cora Belle Rymer Weddington, 94, of China Grove passed away peacefully with family by her side on Friday, March 12, 2021 at Trinity Oaks Lutheran Home in Salisbury after several months of declining health. She was born in Rowan County on January 10, 1927 to the late A. M. Rymer and Lillie Beaver Rymer of China Grove. She was the youngest in her family with 3 brothers and 4 sisters who preceded her in death. She graduated from Landis High School. Cora was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and devoted Christian. She will always be remembered for her sweet smile which would brighten your day. She treasured her family and embraced every moment with them. She was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion United Church of Christ in China Grove where she taught Sunday School for many years and helped with youth activities. She was the cafeteria manager of Bostian Elementary School and retired after 22 years. Later she worked for Pillowtex. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, making flower arrangements, playing cards with friends, reading and keeping her grandchildren whom she adored and loved. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Weddington on August 12, 2012 who was her high school sweetheart. They married on February 22, 1947 and were married for 65 years before his death. She also lost her son, Stephen Weddington, to cancer on January 25, 2013. Cora is survived by a son Donald Weddington and wife, Gayle. She has three granddaughters, Ashley Snipes and husband Daniel, Brandi Boling and husband Shawn and Cora Beth Dellinger and husband McKinnon. She has five great grandchildren, Jaxon Snipes, Jace Boling, Clara Dellinger, Abby Dellinger and Tucker Dellinger. Service: There will be a memorial service on Friday, March 19, 2021 at Powles Staton Funeral Home Chapel at 11 am officiated by Rev. Wayne Trexler. The service will be live streamed via Powles Staton Funeral Home's Facebook page. Cora will be laid to rest at Green Lawn Cemetery beside her husband and son immediately following the service. Due to Covid there will be no formal visitation. However, her body will lie in state for viewing 30 minutes before the service. Mask and social distancing are encouraged.
