Corrine Fierkens Obituary

Corrine Lynn Fierkens, 42, died on July 22, 2016 in Elizabeth, Colorado. Corrine was born February 20, 1974 in Gaylord, Minnesota to John and Minnie Sloot.

Cori grew up on a farm in southern Minnesota to Dutch immigrant parents where she spent endless hours outdoors. There she developed a passion for nature, which she spent her lifetime expressing through art, writing, music, and her relational friendships with horses, hounds and humans.

For the past 20 years, making the Colorado Springs area home, she developed her equine therapy and artistic pursuits, all the while parenting and educating her now 17-year-old son.

Although her physical body died after a 6-year battle with metastasized breast cancer, her spirit constantly conquered, rose above, and inspirationally overcame.

She is survived by her son Pherwyn Fierkens; father John Sloot; sisters Mary (Lee) Graese, Lidy (Terry) Flom, Bernadette (Geoff) Quist, Kathy (Glenn) Wenninger, Yvonne (Bill) Rands, Carol (Leon) Rettmann, Gorette (Wilson) Hu, and brothers Harry (Kellie) Sloot, Vincent (Kate) Sloot, Marc (Libby) Sloot; 38 nieces and nephews and 14 grand-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, a niece, a grand-nephew and unborn family members.

A memorial celebration will be held in her honor Sunday, July 31, from 3-5 p.m. with a program at 3:30, in the Franktown Fire Station Community Room.
