Cynthia Vogel Obituary

Cynthia Clare "Cindy" Vogel, 45, passed away November 19, 2005 in her home surrounded by her family. Cindy was born December 29, 1959 in Minneapolis to Allan Aalgaard and Gladys (Bany) Aalgaard and grew up near Kenyon, MN. She earned a degree in special education from Bemidji State University and worked for years in the Twin Cities area with children and adults who had special needs. In 1987, she married Russ Vogel and together they moved to Manitou Springs in 1989. She earned a nursing degree in 1993 and worked as a medical- surgical RN at hospitals in Walsenburg and Alamosa and at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs. She is survived by her loving daughters: Kelcey, 14, Kirstin, 12 and Kaitlin, 8; as well as her husband; mother; brother, Eric Aalgaard; and sister, Lynn (Aalgaard) Berquam. She was preceded in death by her father. Cindy was an avid reader, a devoted mother, a true fighter and a close friend to so many around her; even during her extended illness. We will always remember her when we see the grace and beauty of hummingbirds around us. Funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 26, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Her family requests that memorials be made to the Diana Price-Fish Cancer Foundation or Pikes Peak Hospice.

Dear Mr. Vogel,

Our 11 year old daughter Abbie is in class with your daughter, and we have 2 little ones that are under your amazing care at the elementary school. Although you do not personally know us, we want you and your children to know that we care about you and your heartache from the loss of your wife. You are all in our prayers.

To Cindy's family:

You don't know me, but I was a classmate of Cindy's growing up. We played the flute together, and sat in class together, and we were friends for a lot of years in the way that small town people are. I am saddened to learn of her death, and you are all in my thoughts and prayers. I am sure that she was an inspiration and a hero to her children, and that is a gift you will carry with you forever. I wish God's peace and comfort for each one of you. Sincerely,

Sarah Overby Pham (KHS '78)
