Daina Kitzky Obituary

Daina M. Kitzky, 61, passed away October 3, in a local hospital. She was a retired middle-school teacher in District 20, where she had specialized in foreign languages. She returned to Colorado Springs and began her teaching career in the early 1970s. Daina enjoyed traveling, took an interest in current events and sports, and seldom missed a football game at the Air Force Academy. She was a member of the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church. She had been married to the late Walter Kitzky. Survivors include her mother, Benita Lemon of Monument; her stepfather, Charles H. Daina and I worked together on a 6th grade team of middle school teachers several years ago. I enjoyed her wry sense of humor, stories of her travels, and amazed at her confidence in never needing to balance her checkbook. In addition to Air Force football she enjoyed symphony performances. She was a regular in our popular yearly NFL football pool, even in retirement. I'm sorry she was not able to enjoy more retirement years, she loved to travel.
