DAN DENALI BANDY
September 13, 1952 October 25, 2020
Dan D Bandy, aged 68, died October 25, 2020 at home in Colorado Springs following an extended illness. Born September 13th, 1952 in Anchorage, Alaska to C. Ward and Georgia (McCormick) Bandy, Dan grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout and graduated with a BS at East Tennessee State University. ROTC led Major Bandy to serve a 20-year Army career. His most memorable events were his first assignment at Bad Tollz in Bavaria, his 2nd Gulf War experience with 43rd ADA and finally his Peace-Keeping-turned-combat-mission in Somalia. Dan then earned an MBA at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs before his second career with Colorado Springs Police Department in Human Resources. Dan was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and later of Mount St. Francis.
Dan will be very sadly missed by his family, beloved wife of 40 years, Susan (Vonderheide) Bandy, cherished daughter Laurel (Bandy) Delmonico, dear son-in-law Maxwell G Delmonico, treasured grandsons Maxwell G Delmonico II, Dexter Action Delmonico, brother Thomas W Bandy (Jennifer), sisters Claire E Bandy and Jana C. Bandy (Kim Scott Guinn). He will be missed by his extended family of a cousin, sisters and brothers-in-laws, nieces, nephews, as well as military friends, buddies and neighbors.
Throughout his life, Dan loved the outdoors, traveling, fly fishing, lapidary, photography, genealogy, listening to music, gardening, bird watching and antiques hunting. His grandsons brought him the greatest joy surpassed only by his love and pride of his daughter. Dan took care of people. He watched the weather, advised of hazardous driving conditions, created multitudes of spreadsheets for every scenario, was generous with gift giving and donations to food banks and the needy. He wore a huge smile and loved chatting with friends. He showed great courage in facing debilitating pain from Parkinsonism and military injuries in his last few years. Dan passed away in the year of the COVID-19 crisis which deterred visits from friends in his last year. The pandemic also prevented having a suitable memorial service, as was the case for so many who died this year. Dan's remains were cremated and interred in Pikes Peak National Cemetery, pending a military honors ceremony in the summer of 2021.
His family is deeply grateful for all the condolences, masses, generous flowers, meals and donations from friends near and far. His favorite charity was Care and Share Food Banks of Southern Colorado, should anyone wish to donate in his memory.
"May you be happy, may you be health, and may the Force be with you." - A blessing from Dan Bandy
