Dana Johnson Obituary

Dana Johnson a native of Colorado Springs passed away at his home after a long illness that took his life on Thursday, March 28. Dana was an accomplished musician who had a degree in music from Coe College in Iowa and studied with numerous Jazz greats, Miles Davis, words to Dana were "shut up and play your horn." Music came easily to Dana and he was proficient on many instruments. At an early age, playing his trombone he had his first paid performance at 13. After leaving Coe, Dana toured Europe and came back to live in New York City where he performed regularly at popular Jazz clubs, on the Tonight Show and in Carnegie Hall. Always a Colorado Boy, he lived and performed in Denver and eventually came back to his roots in Colorado Springs. Dana was a philosophy scholar and enjoyed nothing better than to have a rousing discussion on Course in Miracles, Thoreau, Rumi, Metaphysical beliefs and any other spiritual discussions that challenged the mind. Dana was a member of the Center for Spiritual Living where he had many friends. Dana was a member of AA where he enjoyed countless friendships over the years. Dana was a published poet, and wrote music for Canadian singer Holly Cole. The musical community has lost a bright star. His family has lost a loving light. Dana is survived by his uncle Bill Johnson of Colorado Springs, his brother David Johnson and his family Kate, Clay and Reese of Denver; his niece Briana Miller and family Greg and Devari; nephew Gerald Manion of Alaska; his daughter Emma Burton of Colorado Springs, and his beloved companion Jacque Thayer of Colorado Springs. A memorial will take place at the Center for Spiritual Living in Colorado Springs.

I enjoyed interacting with Dana in Course in Miracles. It was obvious he had a lot of knowledge. I just wish I had known more about his personal history, as shown on this site. I would have loved to ask him a lot of questions! My best to his family.
