Daniel Van Alstine Obituary

Daniel Allan Van Alstine, age 36, a longtime resident of Colorado Springs, passed away on January 15, 2015, comforted and surrounded by family. A loving son, brother and friend, he filled those around him with his joy and kindhearted spirit.

Daniel was born on July 25, 1978 in Orlando, Florida. Daniel spent his early childhood years in upstate New York. He then moved to Colorado Springs at age 14, where he fell in love with the picturesque mountain landscapes and the beauty of the outdoors.

In 2011, Dan graduated from IntelliTec College with a 4.0 Grade Point Average and a degree in Automotive Technology. He was also named Greccio Housing Authority's Outstanding Citizen of 2011.

His passions included carpentry, automobile restoration, drawing, hiking and spending time with his family. Daniel's never failing sense of humor brought light and happiness even during the most challenging of situations. He could always be counted on to find a silver lining and give it a punch line. Never has anyone had a bigger and more generous heart. His spirit is comprised of a thousand little miracles that he used to make an impact every day. He took great pleasure in volunteering for animal rescue organizations and wished he could have adopted them all. Dan loved devoting his time to the care and service of others and always vowed to "pay it forward".

Daniel is survived by his loving Mother and Stepfather, Kathy and Stirling West, and his Sister and Brother in Law, Emily and Ryan Gunn of Colorado Springs.

Memorial services for Daniel will be held in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Please contact the family for further details.

Dan the MAN! I'll always remember our "fat days"! No one but you could take a kitchen full of random food items and somehow create a five course meal! Thank you for all the puppy sitting and hikes with your buddy boy Blakey. You are greatly missed!
