Danny Switzer Obituary

Switzer
Danny Switzer
May 13, 1961
October 30, 2023

We are sad to announce the death of Danny Switzer, who passed away on October 30, 2023. The world became brighter on May 13, 1961 when Danny, a native of Colorado Springs was born. Everyone who knew Danny was touched by his love of family and friends, sense of humor and how he spread happiness wherever he went. Danny attended Rocky Mountain School until he was 19 years old and was then placed at the Pioneer Workshop. He was a "snowbird" for 4 years living between New Port Richey, Florida and Colorado Springs with his parents. While in Florida, he enjoyed going to the beach, fishing and playing soccer. Busch Gardens was his favorite amusement park where he rode "The Python" rollercoaster and actually held a live python.

Danny's career with Goodwill of Colorado Springs began in 1991. He participated in the "Programs in Industry" in which he worked for the Rehabilitation Hospital of Colorado Springs, Chips of Gold, Cub Foods and Rick's Garden Center. It was at "Rick's" where he found his niche and worked there until his retirement in 2021.

Danny loved to dance. He participated in the "Mixed Emotions Dance Troupe" and "Out on the Town" dances. He also enjoyed time spent rock climbing, dogsledding, boxing, kayaking, archery, swimming, camping and bowling. He loved to travel. Whether it was cruising in the Caribbean, hiking in a national park, playing slot machines in Las Vegas and Cripple Creek, he always enjoyed the moment! He attended many plays, concerts and movies. His favorite sports teams were the Denver Broncos and Tampa Bay Lightning.

Since 2019, Danny resided at the Friendship House in Colorado Springs under the amazing care and love of "Mama Rachel" Ruiz and family.

Danny was predeceased by parents Dan and Lois Switzer. He is survived by his sister Susan Switzer, his brothers Tom and wife Anita Switzer of Colorado Springs and Jim and wife Elaine Switzer of Wesley Chapel, Florida. He was very proud to be "Uncle Danny" to Julie and Dan Snyder, Kristie Switzer and Dennis Hamilton. He was equally proud to be "Great Uncle Danny" to Abby and Davis Snyder and Dylan and Kori Hamilton.
Danny will be sadly missed and holds a special place in all of our hearts.

When i think of Dan my heart fills with love. He was kind to all and friends with everyone. We first met at Rocky Mountain school through Special Olympics. Everyday he sought me out to ask if i had a boyfriend or to check that i didnt smoke. Dan smiled, laughed and teased teachers and friends alike. He was a special gift from god leaving an loving imprint on others hearts! He will be missed

I met Dan Switzer hwen he was maybe ten years old through summer programs the Park and Rec Dept provided to kids in the Springs and worked with Dan's sister, Sue. I am so happy to hear that Dan worked at Rick's for many years and was glad to be employed there. Dan was always such an outgoing person and brought cheer to many of those around him. I wish I could have been born with such an easy-going persona. Condolences to the family members who will miss him dearly and appreciation to those who provided support to Dan in his final days - Ruiz and family as well.

Those summer days at The White House Ranch were all the more enjoyable because of Danny (and Sue)! Love them both!

I worked along side Danny at Ricks for many years. He was so sweet and often made me laugh. I was just thinking about him a few days ago and now I know why. Into the light Danny!
