I have thought about Danny even more often than usual particularly becaus of this time of year. Yesterday would have been his birthday. Danny was many things to many people -- obviously from the entries in this guest book. I pray that his family -- espeically his beautiful daughters are comforted with the fact that their Daddy loved them very much and he will never be completely gone from us because of them. He is in their smile, their physical attributes, and their character. I also pray that the rest of the family is encouraged by the fact that even two years later, he is not forgotten and we still laugh and talk about all things that were shared. God's blessings this day and always.

Brother Danny it's hard to believe that it's been over two years since our Father called you home. I was reminiscing with Wendy and The Crew about the first time I met you. It was way back in the mid 80's and you had come to pick Wendy up from a dance performance. I was showing you all something that I had found and you kept me laughing because you kept asking me "JJ you been fiiiiinding thangs?"
I just want to say thank you for sharing your light, love and laughter with us. We miss you Brother Danny!

We are walking down memory lane right now since it is nearing the anniversary of Danny's home going. One of my favorite memories (because there are many) is Danny and his daughter Daphane dancing. She had learned some step and he wanted to learn it too, they danced together, stoping and starting to make sure her daddy had it right. That was a whole day of fun, we all learned the R Kelly step in the name of love dance and even Ms.Danella got up and danced along. It was a good time.

Danny, I just wanted to leave this message as a memory. The girls came out Saturday for Derby. They are growing up so fast. Daphne has a boy named Robert calling her. He is in the 9th grade. Troy talked to him on the phone and gave him the "Dad to Boyfriend" talk. I talked to Daph. It was funny. It wont be long. But we are watching them and we PROMISE to keep them safe. I love you and think about you often. I know you are in heaven having a grand old time. But I miss you. When funny stuff happens, I want to turn and smile at you, or call you on the phone for a big gut laugh. Love you brother. Kiss.

I met Danny in the 80's when we were both pledging on University of Louisville's campus. He became a Sigma days before I became an AKA. While I was standing "in line" quite tired of the whole "pledging experience," Danny came to me and with his beautiful smile told me to "hang on." He topped that evening with a full dance/step routine ALL BY HIMSELF...! We became instant friends. Years later we worked in recruiting at Bellarmine.

Danny's spirit was always so vibrant. His sincerity and loyalty to friends were bar to none. His spirit continue to live through his family, especially through his beautiful sister, Wendy.

I am so glad that God saw it fit to put his son, Danny in our lives. Thank you Danny, I know you're looking down on us....

December 6, 2005

Although we didn't have the pleasure of knowing Danny, we have had the pleasure of knowing Wendy (Walker) Smith as a colleague and friend.

For someone to be capable to take care of their sibling, Wendy was more than just a sibling, she was Danny's best friend during his last days. We could tell that he was very special to Wendy (not to discount the rest of the family) because of the energy and life events(work, wedding planning - which went flawless, etc.) she maintained throughout the year. Just by remembering Danny, his spirit will always be with us.

Many years have passed since the last time I saw Danny, but the first impression that he left with me will always remain.

My memories consist of watching him step

around the floor in the Red Barn ("Step back! Cuz Danny, Danny, Tricky and Big Red are coming thru!!) from seeing him race down to the Art School with his portfolio in hand.

He IS an impressionable, creative, and talented man who will be deeply missed, but not forgotten.

Danny's love for others and his passion for the Arts can be seen and heard. Cherish the memories and hold them forever close.

Danny, Troy and I are on our way back from the Caribbean. The ocean is beautiful and we know you are with us enjoying this beauty. When I look at the water, I see you. I see your depth and strength. I know you are ok now. There is nothing that can hurt anymore. I am glad I was able to spend the last two months with you, by your side. You are very special. Troy is glad to have fixed salmon, one of your favorites. The wedding was beautiful. I didn't do the "ugly cry" :) ha ha. I blinked back those tears! I know you hated to miss it, and we hated to miss you. But you know, you will be able to see the future now. You will see things before us. We plan to give you a nephew soon, :) ! We will tell him about his wonderful Uncle. I love you Bro. You have touched so many lives with your talent and love. We were blessed to have you as long as we did. Me, Troy, Mom, and Jon will take care of Daph and Tiph. Dont worry. Smooches.
