Darrell Jan Greene, 76, went to be with his Lord and Savior in Heaven on August 15th 2021, due to complications from Covid-19.

Darrell was born to Edward and Bernice (Gloye) Greene, in South Bend, Indiana on November 8th, 1944. The youngest of five brothers, he was preceded in death by Eddie, Barry, David, and his parents, as well as his stepfather, Harold Wollen.

After his family moved to Colorado, Darrell graduated from Wasson High School in 1963. He turned down a MiLB draft offer to accept a basketball scholarship from Colorado State University, sports always being a passion and talent of his.

He graduated college in 1968, and went on to teach for over 20 years. He later went into real estate where he worked for Snare Realty until his retirement last year.

In his free time he enjoyed golfing, spending time with family, traveling and rooting for the Cubs. He had a love for classic Ford mustangs, having owned over 100 of them in his lifetime.

Darrell is survived by his loving wife Doren; his brother, Randall Greene (Cheryl); his daughters, Alicia Lamprecht, Adrianne Wagner (Derek), Amber Hodges (Jonathan), Stacie Guier (Mitchell), Krystal Ryan (Tyler), and Cynthia Cloninger; 12 grandchildren; as well as many other family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held on August 28th, 2021 at 9:00 am at Restoration Church - 9355 Peaceful Valley Rd, Colorado Springs, CO 80925 and via livestream at

Darrell was the finest baseball player I ever played against. I fondly recall playing against him in the Colorado Springs American Legion summer league in the early 1960's.

Fittingly, the last time I saw Darrell we played several rounds of golf together at Patty Jewett Golf Course in Colorado Springs in the mid 1970's. Later on, I was transferred by my company to Omaha, Nebraska.

Unfortunately, we never connected again in person as I moved to Minnesota, and we simply lost contact.

Even so, my positive memories of Darrell have not waned, and I feel privileged to have known him.
