I have known Darvan since we were in high school together. I most recently visited with him at our 50th class reunion this past September 2005. We visited about our service experiences. He will be greatly missed by all, especially at our next reunion. I wish all his family well and express my deepest sympathy.

I know he's in a better place. I also know the turf around Bien Hoa and remember the famous mortar attacks. . Revetments were built as a result of those and other incidents at Phan Rang.(sp)

Darvan is watching over the new stuff now that he has some time and can send his guidance.

My condolences to the family.

My most sincere and heartfelt condolences. Darv and I were on different crews but flew together (high bird - low bird)on several missions at Bien Hoa. We trained together, went over together, were "hootch mates" and flew combat together. We again served togther briefly in Libya. As a fellow Daedalian I will always remember and honor him.

My sincerest sympathies go out to Li, Brian and Amy Jo at this sad time.

I have known Darv, Brian and Amy Jo since we were stationed in the Air Force in Italy in the late 1960's. Our lives crossed many times since those days and Darv was always an inspiration to everyone who knew him. His smile and humor were infectious, his willingness to give of himself was unending, and his optimism and ability to see the brighter side of dark days was a miracle. He was truly a one-of-a-kind friend, confidant and fellow professional officer. He never faltered in his loyalty to his family and friends.

Darvan Cook will be sorely missed by those of us who knew him, by his family who loved him, and by the many professional military men and women who were inspired by his leadership. Darv's heart may be at rest, but his memory is alive, well and full of spirit.

Good bye for now old friend.

Brian and Danae...

I am sorry to say i never met your father, but as a helicopter guy i am truly saddened by any loss from the community. Especially so when it is a pioneer that has paved the way for me to do what i do. He was there from the beginning of helicopter operations and fought and saved lives during some of the most trying times in our great history. I send my condolances on your loss and Darvan was an inspiration to many and a great man. God Bless you both...

I have been close to Darvan since high school. We were roommates in college and stayed in touch throughout our Air Force careers. Fortunately I was able to play golf and spend time with Darvan the past two Labor Day weekends. I have lost a dear friend and our country has lost a real soldier and patriot. I miss him!

To the Cook family,

I am so sorry to hear of Dar's passing. I have tried to locate him for a long time. I was in Vietnam with Dar in 1964-65. He crewed with Don Stranahan (unable to locate him.) Dar and I were the only lieutenants in the detachment -- when he rotated back to the States and I was the last of the original group to leave.

Dar was always busy with his guitar. One of his favorite tunes was "A 100 Miles" made famous by Peter, Paul, and Mary.

If any of the family will e-mail me their address I would be happy to send what pictures I have from our tour in Vietnam.

Dar was one of the good guys -- I journey with you in your sadness...

Darv,

I looked forward to re-newing our friendship that started in 1971. I'm sure glad we had the couple of visits together before Christmas, though. We all miss you, and I promise that Connie and I will help look after Li Hwa and your family. Count on that. Anything they need, we'll be there.

Give all the troops up there our best Darvan. You all walked through the valley without fear. You're in God's hands now and we'll all get together one of these days soon.

I was Darvan's Pararescue man on helicopters in Viet Nam. He taught me to play the guitar and we sang together during our spare time. I feel that his sound leadership and good judgement was largely responsible for my safe return. I am grateful to have known him and will miss his great wit and humor.

Dear LiHwa and Family,

I was Darv's secretary at the Chidlaw Bldg. One of my fondest memories was his always whistling Rachmaninoff's 15th Variation. It was one of my favorites, too. He was a good boss and kept us all in line (kinda). We were so sorry to read of his passing. Our hearts and prayers are with you all.

The children that you took under your wing became the men that you see today. All of our accomplishments and triumphs would not have been without you in our lives. We love and miss you sorely, but know that you are in a better place now. Play lots of golf and don’t forget to check in on us every once and a while.
