Daryle Bogenrief Obituary

Daryle James Bogenrief, 25 years of age, died Friday afternoon, June 17, 2005, after the boat that he guided, flipped over on the upper Animas River in Southwestern Colorado. Daryle was born on November 10, 1979, at Torrejon Air Base located in Torrejon de Ardoz, Spain, to Nancy and James D. Bogenrief. In his youth, he lived abroad, including Scotland, Germany, and Turkey. His family later settled in Monument, where he graduated from Lewis-Palmer High School in 1998. He attended Fort Lewis College in Durango and remained in Southwest Colorado to work as a guide for Mild to Wild rafting company and as a ski instructor at Durango Mountain Resort. In Durango, he met and fell in love with Angie Nilsen of Palisade. The couple married last August in Durango. "We love each other more than I thought possible, and we are everything to each other," Angie Bogenrief said. "We loved our life together." Daryle worked as a ski instructor at Vail Mountain for the past two winters. As a gifted athlete and outdoorsman, Daryle excelled at baseball, basketball, and soccer. He approached sports with a highly competitive spirit. Friends and family remember him as one of the most highly respected ski instructors and talented river-raft guides in the state of Colorado. He moved quickly through the Professional Ski Instructors Association's instructor programs to, reportedly, become PSIA's youngest examiner. He loved to fish and hunt in Colorado's streams and mountains. Friends and family hail Daryle for his contagious and disarming sense of humor. Friends stated that he brought integrity and excellence to his family life, work and sporting pursuits. He particularly loved sharing stories of his skiing, hunting, and rafting adventures. Daryle is survived by his wife, Angie Bogenrief, of Avon; mother and father, Nancy and James D. Bogenrief of Monument; brother Eric of Monument; paternal grandmother, Donna Bogenrief of Watertown, South Dakota; and maternal grandmother, Gertrude Brink of Green Valley, Arizona. He is preceded in death by his grandfathers, Daryle S. Bogenrief and Kenneth E. Bull. There will be a memorial service in his honor at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, June 30 at the Church at Woodmoor, 18125 Furrow Road, Monument. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Wells Fargo Bank c/o The Daryle Bogenrief Memorial Fund.

Daryle was one of my best friends growing up in VA. He moved away and we lost touch. I searchednfor him of Facebook often through the years and never knew what he became until was sent this article by another friend. I'm happy to know he lived a full life during his short time here. His memory will live on with me.

Daryle and I were childhood friends. I searched for him online often over the years and always wondered what he became. I'm sad to find this page, but love that he had such a full life. His memory lives on in all of us who knew him.

Boggie, Nancy, & Family;

We are so sorry for your sudden and tragic loss. I remember Daryle for his ability to be an intense competitor but yet able to keep the boys spirits up with his jokes. Darlye was a fine young man who was taken too soon.

I am very sorry for your lose. I graduated from LP with Daryle. Even though we didn't have the same circle of friends, I always remember him as making people laugh. He always put a smile on your face. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family in this difficult time.

Dear Mr.and Mrs. Bogenrief and family,

I am so sorry for your loss. My memories of your son/husband/brother come from when I was an assistant soccer coach at LP High School. He always had a smile. The bigger the challenge, the more he seemed to enjoy himself; he also made everything more fun for those around him. I know that he has touched many people's lives and will be greatly missed.

Mr. and Mrs. Bogenrief, It is with deepest sympathy that I share your grief during this difficult period. I know you were both extremely proud of your son Daryle, and it is quite commendable that he died in valor. It is also comforting to know that he lived life to the fullest and will be sadly missed. May God bless your family and provide you with the courage to continue to keep his memory alive in your hearts.
