David Birmingham Obituary

David Francis Birmingham, a resident of Colorado Springs, died on March 2 after a long illness. He was 80 years old. He was born on September 12, 1930 to William F. and Marion Birmingham of Waltham Massachusetts. He attended the Christian Brothers High School and Boston College, where he graduated in 1952 with a degree in physics. He was commissioned in the U.S. Army, serving in Korea, West Germany and Vietnam, as well as staff assignments at NORAD, the Pentagon and the Army Air Defense Command. After 22 years of service David retired in 1974 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and began a second career as a bill collector for ABC Collections in Colorado Springs, a job he held until 1994. He was active in the local Republican Party and the Knights of Columbus, and as a sacristan at Holy Apostles Catholic Church. He was married to Nancy Carroll of Worcester Massachusetts for 35 years until her death in 1989. He later married Dorothy Frederick of Colorado Springs. Besides his ex-wife Dorothy, David is survived by his brother, Richard Birmingham of Warren New Jersey, his sister Mary Keating of Scituate Massachusetts, his son Bill Birmingham of Colorado Springs, his daughter Katherine Osburn of Cookeville Tennessee, his grand-daughter Jenny Schabert of Morehead Kentucky, and his great-grandson Jacob. A visitation will be held on Monday, March 7, 2011 from 5 - 7 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful� Chapel, 1730 East Fountain Blvd. in Colorado Springs.
