Hello- I was scrolling through your best friend in the service posted on Memorial Day that he missed you every day. I googled your name and read in the Washington Post you were last American soldier to lose his life over there. I was just feeling sorry for myself and your sacrifice is why I need to be thankful. Gone too soon. Blessings to your sweet family.

Hello it has been 11 years but Thank you for your service Mr. Hickman. Your Wife and Parents were hero's also. I saw on TV those years ago when you Officer Hickman was flown in and the escorts you had to the funeral home. It touched my heart so so much. I went to the funeral home to see you and to tell you how hurt I was. I sat there for the longest. There was no one there but the funeral home attendant and me. I will never forget the lace they had placed over you. I guess they were making sure didnt anybody kiss and touch all over you. That was a good thing. I still have you and your family in my heart and Prayers.

Every year, near the anniversary of 9/11, I try to learn about a victim of that day. Usually, its a direct victim, but this year it is you. An unsung hero, one of many, that sacrificed a beautiful life and future in this physical world to fight for what you believed in your heart. As a NYer (I left in 2009), as an American and as a human being, I thank you, your family and friends for the sacrifice you all have made and pray every night for your familys healing.

Hey brother, you've been on my mind lately. I just recently went to see your memorial and it brought up a lot of good memories of all the fun we had back in Fort Bragg; it still feels like it was yesterday. I Just wanted to say happy birthday and let you know I'm doing well.
Sometimes it gets real hard but I always remember how strong and confident you were as a person and knowing that gives me strength and always makes me smile. I looked to you as a big brother and I can't begin to count the life lessons I learned from you. I will never forget you man.
Till we meet again,

Mr.& Mrs. Hickman.....I saw the article concerning your son in a local newspaper here in S.W. Missouri. I had lost my twin brother in Viet Nam, he was in the 101 Airborne ( Donald Wayne Bornman). I, too, served over there after his death....I was in the navy. Am not sure why God called him home and spared me....but, I trust His wisdom and mercy in these things. I will certainly keep you all in my prayers! I thank you and David for your service.God bless you all.

My heart goes out to the family of SPC Hickman. I don't know him, but any man worthy of serving in the Army and deploying to Iraqi is worthy of praise. I walked the streets of Baghdad and I feel for his loved ones. The man's death is a tragedy, as is the death of all who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for this war. Bless his wife and parents, the pain of burying a loved one is heavy, but always remember that there are many of us vets who will salute him and the thousands who gave the ultimate sacrifice. God speed.

Please allow me to express my heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends, and loved ones of this brave young man. My son served for one year in Iraq with the 130th Engineer's Brigade, and I was so grateful when they all returned without casualties. However, I have grieved along with every parent, brother sister, and friend who lost a loved one to this conflict. Had my son not returned from Iraq, I would have been shattered, but I would have also felt pride in the knowledge that he gave his life in service to his country.
Please accept my gratitude for the tremendous sacrifice your family has made. I will keep your family in my prayers.
