David Mirk Obituary

Mirk
David Mirk

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Mirk. David passed from this life on Thursday March 1st from complications due to an aneurysm.
David was a wonderful father to his son Max, an amazing husband to his wife Catherine and a true friend to many. Dave loved golfing, skiing, mountain biking and racing his formula 1000 race car. David was happiest when he was riding or golfing with his friends or racing his "Red Car ".
David was born in Los Angeles California to Michael and Kari Mirk and spent his formative years in California, racing at Sears Point and racing in Bandol, France. He soon realized that Colorado was a wonderful place and continued his studies at CU Boulder while always hoping to be able to continue his racing. Luckily for both, David met Catherine Colt and they wed in 1999. Much like his father, David worked in the technology industry and was happy and successful in this role.
David will be missed for his generosity, humility and sense of humor. He leaves behind many people who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father Michael Mirk and his brother Michael Mirk Jr., David is survived by his wife Catherine Colt, son Maxwell Mirk and mother Kari Mirk, and nephews Jordan and Sam. David would like nothing more than to share his good fortune and generosity with the following organizations; The Pikes Peak Humane Society, Kids on Bikes, Bicycle Colorado, Rocky Mountain PBS or First Tee.
A private ceremony is pending.

I met Dave a few years ago at High Plains Raceway, as we both had a passion for racing. Dave was one of the few friends I'd made at the track since moving to Colorado from the East Coast, and was always there with a joke or to offer help in any way he could. While we drove in different classes of cars and never directly competed against each other, Dave's ever-present smile and never-ceasing support was something I looked forward to every race weekend, and will now cherish forever. God speed Dave...

I had the opportunity to work with David at HP. He was a brilliant guy. He could make a complex problem simple and easily solved. A small group of us would get coffee together every morning and get out for lunch now and then. Those were great time. God bless you Dave and your family.

I worked near and with Dave for several years at HP. Our best times were working under Jim Wensuc. Dave had a smooth, often calming, down-to-earth nature. He was normally reserved in his tone, but could roar like a lion when needed. He had a dry yet surprisingly funny sense of humor. He was always deliberate and methodical in his conversations. Not usually a man of many words, but he made every word count. I will always reflect on the good memories of our working together. He was a good team-mate and friend, and I am a better person for having known him. My prayers go out to all his family.

Dave, you will always occupy a special place in my heart. You were an amazing friend and neighbor. Once again I lost the bet on the Olympics with Norway kicking Canada's butt, I only wish I had gotten the chance to pay up and enjoy another lasagna dinner with you. You will be missed my friend.
