David Rodriguez Obituary

Rodriguez
David Ronald Rodriguez
February 1st, 1948 - November 7th, 2017
David, who served in the Army during the Vietnam War, was stationed at Ft. Carson in 1972. He fell in love with the beauty of Colorado and never left. An enthusiastic hunter and fisherman, David was most at home in nature, a love he shared with his wife of 48 years, Ginny, and their children, Maya, 26, and Joel, 29. He also loved to run, conquering the Pikes Peak Marathon a number of times.
David, one of 13 children, was born in 1948 to Frances and Jose Rodriguez in Anaheim, California. It was while working at a restaurant in Anaheim that David decided he was going to marry Ginny, a co-worker. His persistence paid off, and they were married in 1969.
After his discharge from the Army, David began a long and successful 30-year career with civil service at Fort Carson, while Ginny taught elementary school in Woodland Park. Together, they adopted two beautiful children, providing David with his most rewarding role: "Pops."
David obtained an AA degree from Pikes Peak Community College and served the community as an active volunteer. With Silver Key he enriched the lives of homebound seniors and as a "big brother" for Headwaters David was a mentor to local youth.
David loved people. His many friends will attest he was always ready with a gentle smile, a helping hand, and if you were lucky, a homemade burrito.
David passed away at Pikes Peak Hospice on November 7 after a year -long battle with cancer that he waged with courage and dignity.
David is survived by his wife, children, and sisters Anita Taylor, Cenona Radmer, and brothers Ray Herrera and Daniel, Frank, Esteban, and Michael Rodriguez. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Margaret Primmer and brothers Magdeleno, Martino and Joe Rodriguez.
A Celebration of David's life will take place at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church at 730 N. Tejon on Saturday, December 02 at 11 A.M. Come in your casual garb and enjoy a potluck and time to visit.
