David Roeder Obituary

David William Roeder 72, of Denver, and long time resident of Colorado Springs, passed away July 25, 2011 in Rochester MN. He is survived by his wife Nancy; sons Mark, of Denver, and Bryan, of Colorado Springs; brother Michael of Edmonton, Alberta, CA; and niece and nephew, Sasha and Nicholas. Dr. Roeder was a professor of mathematics at Colorado College from 1970 to 2004 and department chair for 10 years beginning in 1975, when he guided the department through a successful period of change and rebuilding. A unique portrait of Dave made entirely of 24 complete sets of dominoes hangs in the CC Math Department. He enjoyed teaching and inspiring students, and had a passionate involvement with music. For many years he hosted a weekly Jazz Show on KRCC. In retirement, he continued his interest in math puzzles, baseball, railroads, family, jazz and classical music and especially enjoyed attending and supporting the Colorado College Summer Music Festival, an interest very close to his heart. A memorial service will be held Aug 13, at 1:00 pm in Shove Chapel on the CC campus, 1010 North Nevada Ave, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the CC Summer Music Festival or a charity your choice.
