David Woods Obituary

Reverend David Michael Woods died suddenly on August 4th, 2015 at the age of 51. He was born on August 13, 1963 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and received his Master of Divinity degree from Lexington Theological Seminary in 1997. While in seminary, he served as pastor of Northside Christian Church and as a hospital chaplain, both in Cincinnati.

Following his graduation, David first served as a prison chaplain in Lucasville, Ohio, where he conducted and coordinated religious services for inmates. His next calling was as a hospice chaplain in Colorado Springs, where he was part of an interdisciplinary team who gave care for terminally ill individuals, assisting patients with end of life issues, and providing spiritual support and counsel for families.

Most recently David was the senior pastor at Village Christian Church in Colorado Springs. As pastor, he was a spiritual leader who was greatly loved and admired by the congregation. David was a friend, spiritual guide, counselor and teacher. He deeply loved his congregation and serving the Lord.

David cherished his family and especially loved being playful with his nieces and nephews. He adored animals and had scores of pets over the years. He had a great sense of humor which he used to illustrate his sermons. David's many interests included communing with nature, camping, music, reading, history, science, and Native American culture/spirituality.

David is survived by his wife Darla, parents Dan and Nancy Woods, and his brothers Danny (Rebecca) and Jonathan (Beth). His many nieces and nephews include Ian, Amberly, Danny, Timothy, Maddie, and Abigail.
