Dawn Rector Obituary

November 4, 1920 - November 20, 2007. Dawn Arlene Rector was born November 4, 1920, in Hankinson, North Dakota to John Claus Holst and Anna Marie (Boelke) Holst. She was the youngest of eleven children. After graduating from high school in Hankinson, she attended Valley City State Teachers College in Valley City, North Dakota, where she obtained her teaching certification. While at college she met her future husband, Leo W. Rector, and the couple was married on July 18, 1944, in Ogden, Utah, after Leo returned from serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II. When Leo graduated from law school in Boulder in 1947, the couple moved to Colorado Springs, where Dawn remained a resident until her death. She was a homemaker, mother, and grandmother who was also active in The Assistance League and PEO for years. She was known by her friends and family for her devout faith and an honest and kind spirit which remained a hallmark of her personality throughout her life. Her husband Leo, to whom she was married for fifty years, predeceased her in 1995. She is survived by one sister, Gladys Allen, of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; sons Tim, Dan, and Terry Rector, all of Colorado Springs; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. A memorial service will be held for her on Tuesday, November 27th, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, 1515 N. Cascade Avenue, in Colorado Springs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Memorial Fund at First Lutheran Church.

Dear Terry,
I am so impressed with your mother and her attributes. She was an outstanding woman, and mother, I know. I was a teacher; once one, always one. God Bless and know you are in my prayers.
