Delmore Howell Obituary

Delmore Howell, Jr.,was born August 10, 1941 in Raymondville, Texas to the late Delmore and Ethyl Doreen (Tipton) Howell and passed away November 30, 2010 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Delmore attended 18 schools throughout Texas and Oklahoma before graduating from high school due to his father being a small town Baptist Minister and their many moves to different churches. After attending school at University of Oklahoma, Del joined the United States Air Force in 1962 where he traveled to Vandenburg Air Force Base in California near Los Angeles and stayed for two years. During his active time in the Air Force, Del was stationed at McGuire Air Force base in New Jersey and was a part of the Goose Bay Labrador 95th Combat Defense Squadron Strategic Air Command. After leaving the Air Force in 1967, Del took a position in Houston, Texas driving a city bus. During one of his trips in 1968, Delmore was robbed of only $17.00 but the robber shot Delmore three times before running away. After checking on his passengers Del called the dispatcher and proceeded to pass out. After all these years Delmore still had one bullet lodged in his chest. Delmore arrived in Colorado Springs in 1972 and married Patricia Willis on February 14, 1979. Del held a lifetime membership in the American Legion Post 5 and served as Commander in 1986, 1987 and 1988 and served as Adjutant. While in Colorado Springs, Del worked with National City Management Company and managed Colorado Springs Transit (now Metro Mobility) for 25 years. However he was not ready to retire so he went to work as a bookkeeper for Commercial Cleaning Technicians, Inc. in 1995 where he stayed until his death. Delmore is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann (Willis) Howell; step children, Donald Asa Willis, Robert Leck Willis , Gregory Paul Willis, Benjamin Edward Willis and Donnie Terrell Willis all of Colorado Springs and Deanna Willis-LeRoy of Seal Beach, CA; brother, James Howell of San Antonio, TX. Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, December 4, 2010 at The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 E. Platte Avenue. Memorial contributions may be made to Pikes Peak Hospice, 825 E. Pikes Peak Avenue, #600, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.
