Love and miss you forever dear cousin. I would give/do anything to have all our loved ones back--for even just one day. Oh what a glorious day it would be. You would be so proud of Nan's bamboo plant! It's so tall and thriving. I love that it is something from you. I still have the plant food you gave to me and Jim! And the salt lamps...so many of us in the family have them and I know that you are thought of each time they are lit. Continue to watch over and guide us. Love you~

Bill, Jane, LeAnne, Keven, Marylynn the ENTIRE Family, and to all who loved Dennis,

I wrote an original message a year ago...there is too much to say and although I have crafted this hundreds of times in my head, a year later seems to be the right time.

To all of us who loved him... "there is a grief that can't be spoken".

My story is that of twenty years, from the day I met Den thru today, it will last forever.

I have been blessed to meet many of the wonderful members of the family from Colorado to Pensylvania. He loved you all beyond words. I felt like I knew all of you thru his eyes and his heart long before I met you. Thank you for including me and sharing him.

Jane, I remember how excited Den was when you came to Douglas for a visit. I have never seen anyone light up so much over a home made meal cooked by Mom!! Ham and corn, he was just too cute. He loved the weekly updates on all that was going on with the family. I loved how he talked to all of you...such excitement and love in his voice...always. I remember a video you all sent him because he could not be with you. It was for a house devided over a football game! He laughed and laughed and could not talk about the family enough. He had a special place in his heart for all of you.

Bill, how I loved listening to Dennis tell stories about you and your work adventures. The good and the hair raising stories....bullits shot into the sandwich shop! Your heroic actions! He was so incredibly proud of you and he hung on to every story. He gleamed with pride.

LeAnne, I will never be able to convey to you how Dennis felt about you! He loved you to the very core of his soul. I met you the first time years and years ago on the record breaking hot day in Phoenix. It was 120 degrees! I loved all the stories! Oh how he teased and tormented you when you were kids. LeAnne, everyone in the world should be blessed to have a sister like you. Dennis loved you beyond all words.

Sweet Keven, you are a beautiful, smart boy! I remember the first time your Daddy showed my your pictures. He was beaming. I am really happy I got to spend a little bit of time with you when we went to meet your Great Grandma and your aunts and uncles!! You are wonderful and you are surrounded by tons of people who love you and hold you in their hearts.

To Den's "Uncle Dennis", he had such a connection to you. He always spoke of you with love and admiration. You ranked almost higher than "Grandma's" homemade pasta!

To his friends, his old fire fighting crew and "His Boy's in Black"....he loved you all.

My journey with Dennis could take weeks to write. Dennis inspried me, challenged me and most of all shared his world with me. His love will stay with me forever.

There are so many little things along the way, 20 years..... no beginning and no end

The best argument we ever had was when he introduced me to rap music! I hated it, he loved it and I said it would never last!

He was so eclectic in his taste for music. With the exception of rap,(whisch STILL makes me think of him) he touches me still to all things "Wilson Phillips, Cher, Heart, and yes Expose'.....age is showing here. (ok ABBA too)--amazingly one of his favorite groups EVER!! I really am not joking :)
We watched the first episope of the Simpsons together...I thought that would never last either! We watched every re-run fifty times over of every MASH episope ever made. Monty Python and all things comedy.

I watched him jump out of a plane the first time. I thought I would have a heart attack.

Dennis loved to dance....we would dance until I would drop ( I was so much younger!) Several years ago I had the honor of watching Dennis look at the ocean! I love that picture of him in my head standing on a quiet chilly beach. He was in his own world just taking it all in. We danced on a harber dinner cruise..he was weak, but we danced.

Over the years there was laughter and, tears of joy and tears of fear. Desert storm struck us both to the core. We stood on the tables and sang "I'm Proud to be an American" at the top of our lungs. In my heart I hope Dennis is an extra set of protective eyes on my son who is in Iraq....I know he would be proud.

I have two thread bare T-Shirts that we both had...One from the Country's first well pubisized "drug tunnel" as well as our Desert Storm shirts. I will keep them until the last moth devours them.

I wanted to share some pieces of my story of Dennis. He had a way of capturing hearts. He has a piece of mine always...

Dennis, "Nothing Compares to You"

with love forever, -Shel

I met Dennis while he was working in Douglas and later on the yards at Fort Grant and Safford. Dennis was in many ways a great person, loved to do his job, while extending himself out to help others. Dennis will be dearly missed by those who loved him and the many many friends he made over the years. May he rest in peace with the Lord's blessings.

Dennis was not only a mentor and teacher but a freind. His passion for life was unmached. He took on every challenge with a positive attitude and was an inspiration to those of us whose lives he touched. He will be truely missed.

There are a group of us here at Safford who had the pleasure of working with Dennis. Not only here but in Douglas also, back when Dennis first started with the Dept. Dennis looked so young then that we would joke with him occasionally about having a note from his mother to be there. Dennis always took everything with a smile and it was always full speed ahead. I am proud to call him my friend. I am sure that he is looking down on us with his quirky smile. May God bless each of you.

Dennis and I were officers together in Douglas, AZ in the late 80's/early 90's. He stood out from the others when he began his career with the Az Dept of Corrections. His quick wit and his passion for the job were two qualities that endeared him to me and we did have some memorable times together. My heart goes out to the members of his family...Dennis was a good man and more than just a friend or co-worker to hundreds of staff in Arizona. He was respected by officers and inmates alike. Rest in peace, Dennis and we will meet again a little further down the road.

In 2000 I joined the Arizona Department of Corrections and met Dennis. He was one of those people who took pity on someone to whom the world of corrections was a foreign world. I could always go to him for answers and he gave them without talking down to me. I felt honored when he came to Safford to visit his old friends, and let me know he was coming. I feel fortunate that I was able to visit with him once again. Rest in peace, Dennis.

Dennis, you were a role model when I came to work for the Department of Corrections and you taught me by your example. I recognized your integrity and you reminded me of many of the police officers I had known and worked with. You have left your mark at ASPC Safford. You are not forgotten.

To the Killa Family,

I couldn't believe it when I heard that Dennis had left this earth. He and I had some great and wonderful times together. We laughed and cried, rode the motorcycle without a care and bleached our hair way to blonde after a few too many. He was and always will be the sweet spirit that set me free. I will always love him. Leann, Jane, Kevin and Harry;
Your sorrow will pass with time, and then you will have nothing but cherished memories.

To Leann, Bill and Jane, you have my deepest sympathy and I pray God will give you peace and comfort during this time of grief and sorrow.

To my beloved nephew, from the first day I saw you as an infant to the day I saw you as a young man, I am so very proud to be your Uncle. There will be a day when I will rejoin you and we will ride our motorcycles above the clouds. Until then, a void will be left in my heart and the rock lamp you gave me will always be lit, to remind me of when you smiled, you made the whole world brighter.
Love,
Uncle Denis

We extend our deepest sympathy to Uncle Bill, Aunt Jane, LeAnn and Kevin. Our hearts are heavy and filled with such sadness all the way over here in PA and we wish we could be there to comfort you. Dennis was such a genuinely kind and caring person and we all are so blessed to have had him in our lives. Every person who knew Dennis knows that he possessed many great qualities. A few that stick out in our minds were his warm infectious smile, how comfortable he made a person feel to just sit and talk with him about anything, what a dedicated and courageous hero he was for the work he did at the prison, a proud father who wanted only the best for his son, and he definitely knew how to bring out a good giggle in everyone.

We know that God has just gained another angel and Dennis will be looking down watching over and guiding us. May we all find comfort and strength at this difficult time by cherishing the many wonderful memories we all had with Dennis. We will never forget them. May you rest peacefully cousin and know that you will forever remain in our hearts. We love you and miss you tremendously.

Our deepest sympathies to Dennis's family - Bill, Jane and LeAnn. Although we are so deeply saddened by Dennis's untimely passing, we were so blessed with a nephew such as Dennis. If you knew Dennis, you will always hold constant memories of his kindess, his smile and how wonderful he was as a Father. As his Aunt and Uncle, we were elated when he was born - having become our first nephew/grandson in our extended family in Pennsylvania! How proud we were of him and the loss and sadness that now consume our hearts, we shall fill with the wonderful memories we have from having Dennis with us. God's speed, dear newphew, we will continue to cherish each and every day with the memories of you in the hopes that those memories will comfort us all at this most difficult time. We love you, Dennis.
