General Sullivan was born in Chippewa Falls, Wis. In 1946 he entered the US Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md., graduating in 1950 and then immediately entering the Air Force. This same year he married his high school sweetheart, Rose Marie.
After flying many missions in Korea, he went on to fly a variety of fighter jets from F-80's to F-106's
According to Sullivan's official general officer bio, from June 1963 to August 1968, General Sullivan was a special projects officer at Headquarters US Air Force, Washington, DC. In reality, Sullivan had been sheep-dipped from the US Air Force to the CIA at Area 51 for the Mach 3 A-12 Project Oxcart. Known as Dutch 23, Sullivan first flew the A-12 on 14 April 1963. In 1967, Project OXCART went operational with Sullivan and five other Agency pilots rotating between Area 51 and Kadena, Okinawa, for Operation BLACK SHIELD.
General Sullivan served as director of operations and later vice commander of the 9th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing at Beale Air Force Base, California, the only Air Force unit flying the SR-71 "Blackbird" strategic reconnaissance aircraft.
In September 1981, Brigadier General Dennis B. Sullivan was a command director in the Cheyenne Mountain Complex for the North American Aerospace Defense Command. He retired from the Air Force in 1985.
Dennis was an avid and excellent golfer. He and his wife were long time members of the Broadmoor Golf Club where they actively participated in tournaments, winning many of them over the years. He was a hunter and a fisherman and a wonderful father and husband.
He is survived by his 4 children, his 2 sisters, and his 4 grandchildren.

I had the privilege of serving as General Sullivan“s Executive Officer when he was Deputy Chief of Staff Operations at Headquarters Air Training Command. He was a smart, and very pleasant man. He was one of the nicest Generals I ever worked with. He was a gentleman. Rose Marie was a wonderful wife and companion to him. I only knew one child, she must have been their youngest and in college. I last saw the General when we played golf at the Broadmor in Colorado Springs. I had great respect for him. God Bless General Sullivan and your family. Jack Marquette.
