DeSaussure Bull Obituary

LT. COLONEL Bull, US ARMY (Ret.)
Lt. Colonel DeSaussure Bull, US Army (Ret.)
August 3, 1927 - May 28, 2018
On the day of remembering fallen heroes, Memorial Day, May 28, 2018, Lt. Colonel DeSaussure Bull left this world after a brief illness.
Born August 3, 1927 in Sumter S.C., he was the son of Francis Kinloch Bull and Julia Ball Bull. He graduated from Pinewood High School and attended the University of South Carolina. His summers were spent at Pinopolis State Park, where he was a lifeguard and lifeguard instructor.
He had a distinguished career as an Army officer serving in Korea, Germany and Viet Nam. While stationed in Fort Benning, Georgia, he was commanding officer of 43rd Airborne Company. During his time at Fort Benning, he earned his Master Parachutists wings, excelled in marksmanship, and was the Officer In Charge of the US Army Marksmanship Training Unit. In VietNam he was awarded two Bronze Star medals for bravery in combat.
After retiring from the Army, he taught ROTC at Savannah High School and Groves High School. While in Savannah, he enjoyed wading deep into the surf to fish for Sea Bass at Tybee Island. As an avid outdoorsman, Des, as he was known to friends and family, went to live out west. He loved to hunt and fish in the beauty of Colorado. He learned to snow-ski when he was sixty and continued the sport for sixteen years. In his later years he lived at The Inn at Garden Plaza, a residential community in Colorado Springs. These were some of his happiest years as he made many friends with whom he played bridge regularly.
Always enjoying a good joke, he will be missed by his friends and his family. Surviving Lt. Colonel Bull are his sister, Julia Bull Aymonier and her children; son, David (Mayuree) of Aspen, Colorado; daughters, Betsy Purvis (Bruce) of Atlanta, Georgia; and Caroline Kinloch Bull of Tarpon Springs, Florida; as well as four grandchildren, Leigh, Ben, Nicholas, and Stephen.
A memorial service will be held July 9th at Fort Logan, Denver, Colorado at 11:15A.M., staging Area C.
