Diana Young Obituary

Diana "Dee Dee" Beth Young was tragically taken from this life on April 18, 2007. She was born to Wilbert "Arlen" and Patricia Ann Thompson on July 8, 1961 in Lincoln, Nebraska and was a proud member of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe. Dee Dee moved to Colorado with her family as a young child and so loved the mountains that she remained here most of her life. Her passions in life were her three children, Vanessa, Adrien, and Evin, as well as her three grandchildren, Chayne, Nevaeh, and Isaac. Dee Dee never knew a stranger and in spite of any personal hardship, she was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She will always be remembered for the sparkle in her eye, her mischievous grin and her infectious laugh. In addition to her children and grandchildren, Dee Dee is survived by her parents, Patricia and Bert Helmbolt; grandmother, Irene Gardner; sister, Darlene (Paul) Foley; brothers, Ward (Brenda) Thompson, Rex Thompson and Russell Thompson; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Dee Dee also leaves behind a multitude of close friends. She is preceded in death by her father, Arlen Thompson, and sister, Denise Thompson. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 25th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 26th at 10:00 a.m. at the Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel of Roses.

Tomorrow it will be a year since you were taken from us and our lives turned into a horrid nightmare.
You were pink bows, curls, dresses, dolls and tea parties for such a short time. All too soon you were scrapes, bruises and blue jeans. All your life you were opinionated and headstrong - pushing back against things you didn't think were right. You sacrificed so much - standing up for yourself and those you cared about.
Life was exceptionally hard for you so many times and you deserved so much more happiness and stability than what you got. I heard you say many times that your children were your heart and I know somehow that gave you the strength to never give up.
You chose to be your family's protector and fiercest defender - you were allowed to take issue with something we said or did - but nobody else dared try or they'd have you to deal with. You followed your heart (often at warp speed) even when your head knew better - and right or wrong, we loved you all the more for it.
Your feelings were never very far from the surface - you reacted so instantly to both joys and hurts that those around you were caught up in those same feelings. For the rest of our days we will remember your outgoing spirit, those snapping eyes, your jokes + bubbling laughter, the in-your-face advice you gave so freely, and your unconditional love and support.
You've certainly earned your Heavenly wings my daughter... maybe they even come in purple..
I miss you so much...

DD - I hope you have some peace knowing that your Evin is now safely in our heart and our home. We brought him home this weekend and it was truly a week to be thankful! I have so much I want to tell you about him but I think you are watching and already know just how special he is. Adrien and Vanessa are doing well but miss you so much (as we all do). This evening Evin was laying on my window ledge ... you know who I was thinking about! Many hugs and kisses. I love you.

DD
I miss you so much. I wish so badly that I could talk to you and tell you one more time how much I love you and enjoy one (or two or three ...) more laugh(s) together. I can remember some of the most funny times we shared, moments only a sister can share. I am trying so hard to obtain guardianship of Evin but am so frustrated by the hurdles in this process ... how I wish I knew what your wishes would be regarding this entire process. I hope I am going the right thing. I am so sorry for our limited and sporatic communication these past couple years. If only we knew how limited our futures were -- things would have been so different. I love you forever and ever.
Love, Darlene

Dee Dee, Words cannot express the emptiness we feel at the loss of such a beautiful, loving, creative person. Our hearts are broken. We will miss your smile, your laugh, and your irreverent sense of humor. There is a void in our lives that will never be filled, but our memories of happy times with you and your family will carry us through. I thank God for allowing us the time we had with you, and for giving you such an accepting spirit. You welcomed all of us into your family, whether we were blood relatives or not. You were, and are, a favorite sister-in-law, aunt, and friend. We love you Dee Dee, now and forever. Lisa, Mike, Laura, Ariel and Dani
