Dianne Dempsey Obituary

"Enter as Strangers, Leave as Friends" Dianne Maureen Dempsey passed away on March 16, 2011 in Colorado Springs as a result of complications following treatment for a fractured spinal vertebrae. She pursued many different and sometimes fascinating jobs as she accompanied her Air Force husband through his thirty year career over a large part of the world. These ranged from realtor to publisher and editor of a small English language newspaper in Oslo, Norway. What she will be remembered and cherished for, however, and she valued most, was her role of "mom" to a family which included her own children and almost everyone she met. She was "other mother" to friends, the children of friends, Air Force Academy cadets, neighborhood kids and her clients and took charge, sometimes like it or not, until problems were solved or hearts were mended. She was known to stop whatever she was doing, no matter how important or critical, and rouse the entire neighborhood into action in order to corral a stray dog until the owner could be found. Dianne loved to cook, and her favorite pastime was to predict the next move, herb or spice to be used by a TV cooking show host, and she was unerringly right. As a realtor, she was associated for many years with several of the leading firms in the area and sat on the Board of the Pikes Peak Association of Realtors. Deeply dedicated to fairness, she served on the ethics committee, reviewing consumer complaints, until her retirement. She also was instrumental in creating a strategic plan for the Board and providing an advanced managerial training program for Board members. But the role she loved best was working with buyers, especially first time buyers, in achieving their dream of home ownership. Her proudest boast was that in all of her years as realtor, only one client defaulted on a loan, and that because they acted against her advice. Dianne married her High School sweetheart, Mark, in 1958. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Mark, four children; Lauren (Keith) Plaskonos of Ft. Worth, Tx, Mark W. (BJ) Dempsey of Colorado Springs, Christopher M. (Mary) Dempsey of Colorado Springs, and Casey (Ken) White of Highlands Ranch, CO. Grandchildren: Aaron and Elise Plaskonos, Mark Clifford Dempsey, Teresa Thorsos Dempsey and Rowan White. Dianne is also survived by a brother, Donald Purkess and a sister Denise Nosal, and countless others she helped along the way. A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 2650 Parish View, Colorado Springs, CO, 80919, on Monday, March 21st at noon. In lieu of flowers Dianne's wish was that a donation in her memory be made to The Colorado Springs Chorale, P.O. Box 2304, Colorado Springs, Colorado, 80901.
