Dixie was born in Dodge City, Kansas. She married her high school sweetheart, Eldon Hager, who preceded her in death. They were long-time residents of Colorado Springs and very active in round dance as callers and instructors. Dixie was an accomplished seamstress and knitter; she loved spending summertime in the mountains. They lost their son Neil in 2017. Survivors are daughter Diane Fortner and grandsons Aidan and Mark Fortner and Justin and J.D. Hager.
