Dolores Long Obituary

Long
Dolores K. Long
Following a brief illness, Dolores K. Long passed away unexpectedly last week at her home in Colorado Springs with her daughter Cynthia by her side. Dolores Kathryn Alldredge was born to the union of Mansel William and Dorothy Alldredge of Colorado Springs, CO. Dolores was the third child and only girl following two big brothers, Don and Bill. Dolores attended Bristol Elementary, North Junior High and Colorado Springs (Palmer) High School.
Growing up, Dee played the piano and performed in many piano recitals. Dee also sang in the Capella choir and spoke fondly of performing in the Easter Sunrise Service at the Garden of the Gods.
While in high school, Dee's brother Bill introduced her to her future husband, Bill Long while she was working at the Woolworths store downtown. They were married June 22, 1947.
At that time, Dee was modeling for Downing Models of Colorado Springs and was voted "Model of the Year."
As the children began to arrive, Dee became a stay-at-home mom and volunteer. She was a Cub Scout Den mother and a homeroom mother for many years.
Dee's first love was her family. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren and loved spending time with them celebrating their successes. Many happy memories were made fishing and boating and camping in the motorhome.
She loved to travel and enjoyed collecting salt and pepper shakers, cookbooks and frogs. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting and other crafts.
Dee was also a successful business woman as well. After the children were older, she started her own telephone answering service in Greeley, CO in the 1960's.
After Bill was transferred back to Colorado Springs with Mountain Bell, Dee was a manager of Bronco's Restaurant, followed by employment as a Deputy Clerk for the El Paso County Motor Vehicle Department and retiring as a long distance telephone operator with AT&T.
After retirement Dee stayed busy doing part-time dog grooming, volunteer-work, traveling, gardening, bingo, oil painting, occasional trips to Cripple Creek and taking walks with her Boxer, Axl.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Don and Bill, her sister-in-law, Louise, her husband Bill, her daughter Debra, and her dog, Axl.
Dolores is survived by her sons James W. (Mary) Long, Spring Hill, FL, Gerald L. (Janice) Long, Colorado Springs, CO, daughter, Cynthia D. Bryson, Colorado Springs, CO, four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Cremation has been entrusted to Cappadona Funeral Home.
A memorial service to celebrate Dee's life will be held on Friday, February, 16 at 10:00 a.m. at Cappadona Funeral Home at 1020 E. Fillmore St., Colorado Springs, CO. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dee's memory can be made to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, 610 Abbot Lane, Colorado Springs, CO 80905.

You were not only my Mom, but my best friend, my shopping buddy and travel buddy. You made my life better in every way. You gave me your love of reading and cooking.
Your passing was so unexpected, but I am glad I was there and that you did not suffer. You are missed every day. I know that you are in Heaven now and rejoicing with all of our loved ones and pets who passed before us. I will see you and all of our loved ones again when it is my time. With love, your daughter, Cindy.
