Dolores Wascher Obituary

Dolores Jean
(Bohlsen) Wascher
June 30, 1930
April 14, 2022

Dolores Jean Bohlsen Wascher was born June 30, 1930, in Omaha, Nebraska to Paul and Helen (Huster) Bohlsen. She grew up in Omaha and moved to Chicago, Illinois as a teenager. She graduated from Morton High School in 1948. She attended Valparaiso University for one year before returning to Chicago to care for her mother.
Dolores married her high school sweetheart, Robert Wascher, on July 12, 1952. The hymn they used for their wedding processional was "Let Us Ever Walk with Jesus" and that is what they did together for over 69 years! They helped start Our Savior Lutheran Church in Lynchburg, Virginia where they lived, worked and raised their three daughters. Dolores was an active volunteer at the church, several community groups and the girls' schools. She also worked in the library at Randolph Macon Women's College. When they moved to Akron, Ohio, Dolores became an active member of the Akron Symphony Guild and a dedicated volunteer at Fairlawn Lutheran Church.
Dolores was an outgoing, friendly "people person." She had the gift of hospitality and enjoyed welcoming people to her home and the church. She loved music and was an accomplished pianist and organist. She played the organ at her church and sang in the choir. She was a voracious reader, active traveler and enjoyed sewing, doing tole painting and making stained glass windows.
Dolores is survived by her husband, Robert Wascher, and her three daughters: Judy (Thomas) Novack, Diane (Michael) Hummon and Susan Duven. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Bryan (Paige) Novack, Laura (Andy) Andrews, Scott (Laurel) Novack, Douglas Hummon, Paul Hummon, Alexander Duven, Katherine Duven and Madeline Duven. And, ten great grandchildren: Blakelyn and Heather Novack, Cecilia, Teresa, Tripp and Rosie Andrews, and Isabelle, Mitchell, Harrison and Anderson Novack.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents and her son-in-law, William Duven.
A memorial service will be held on May 20, 2022 at 1 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, 1515 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association, First Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or Lutheran Hour Ministries.

Mrs. Wascher was like a second mom to me. My life has been truly blessed by how she and the Wascher family included me in their lives and demonstrated how to live out my Christian faith every day, not just on Sunday. What a joy it is to know she is now with the Lord and that someday we will have a blessed reunion in heaven!
