Don Frederick Obituary

Frederick
Don "Mo" Alan Frederick
September 20, 1965 - December 25, 2017
Don Alan "Mo" Frederick, Attorney at Law, age 52, long time Colorado Springs resident, peacefully went to be with the Lord on December 25, 2017. His loving parents were by his side when he passed.
Donnie was born on September 20th, 1965 in Colorado Springs to Donald and Ann Frederick. Donnie spent most of his first 10 years living on Rock Creek Mesa. He and his friends enjoyed the outdoors playing on the south side of Cheyenne Mountain.
In 1976, our family moved to North Pole Alaska, a suburb of Fairbanks. There he attended North Pole Junior - Senior High School. He excelled in school, participated in drama, musicals, played hockey and soccer. He graduated with honors in 1984 from North Pole High School. He received The Harvard Book Award, a scholarship and attended Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. During his freshman year at Harvard, he was given the nickname "Mo", because he was from Alaska and that was short for Eskimo. That nickname stuck with him forever. Donnie graduated from Harvard in 1988.
In 1989 Donnie attended The University of Denver, College of Law. Upon receiving his Juris Doctor Degree from law school, he primarily practiced Family Law for 25 years. Then in May of 2017, he was recruited by the Gasper Law Group to become one of their Associate Attorneys. This was his "Dream Job", which he loved dearly. He remained at the Gasper Law Group until he passed.
Donnie is survived by his parents Don and Ann, his only first cousin Stacey Westrick and her family in Michigan. He is also survived by many cousins in Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, New York and many friends from all over the world. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Robert A. and Dorothy A. Martin, his grandmother Norma C. Frederick and an uncle Robert G. Frederick.
Donnie became a Christian at an early age and continued to serve the Lord, his Church and the community throughout his life.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Rocky Mountain Calvary, 4285 N Academy Blvd., Colorado Springs Colorado 80918. A luncheon will be served at the church following the service.
Contributions may be made in Donnie's name to C.A.S.A., 418 S Weber St., Colorado Springs, Co. 80919.

To Donnie's parents, even though we never met, Donnie told several times how awesome his parents were and how close he was to you both. I'm so sorry for your loss. Donnie's passing is tragic for everyone who knew and loved him.

Donnie and I met when we both studied abroad in Seville, Spain, he for a semester and I for the academic year. We became friends almost immediately after we first arrived in Madrid where we spent a couple of days. Donnie and I just hit it off right away. He is still the only person I have personally known who graduated from Harvard! Donnie wasn't just super smart; he was a class act all the way. He is probably the kindest, caring person I have ever know outside of my own parents. Gosh, I was blessed to be his friend!

I wish we could have spent more time in face-to-face contact, but I lived in the Kansas City area (I'm a University of Kansas boy) while Donnie lived in Colorado Springs. Still, Donnie came and visited me a couple of times, and I visited him in Colorado at least once. Yet we kept in touch on and off via mail and phone for nearly thirty years.

I'll never forget the long weekend that Donnie, Andy, and I and two other friends spent in Lisbon, Portugal. We arrived in Lisbon not knowing that it happened to be a huge sports weekend there, and the five of us walked around the city all night looking for a place to stay. It finally worked out, and we had a great time.

In Spain that first semester, Donnie, Andy, and I were almost inseparable. We just enjoyed each other's company. While my Spanish name was Jaime, Andy and Mo gave the nickname Santiago. Btw, I can't leave out Paula and Scarlett who were also part of our close group. Gosh, what a great time we had in Spain. It was Donnie, though, who made it truly special.

So to my dear, close friend Donnie, I'll miss you for the rest of my life. I know you're in God's arms now, and He is protecting you. I pray that we will meet again someday. God Bless you, Pal. And God Bless your loving parents.

I first met Donnie when we rode the school bus together and had the same teacher in 4th grade. The world lost a soul that can never be replaced. His smile, friendship, and love of his fellow man is beyond compare. May the short time he was here carry you till you are again reunited him. With a deeply broken heart I prayer for you, and mourn our loss.

So sorry to hear about Mo's passing. What a great loss for our community and especially for the children he served and advocated for. He was an excellent volunteer and I am so glad that I got the opportunity to know him through his volunteer work in our community. So sorry for your loss, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick. May your love and memories of your son bring you comfort.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Frederick, and Stacey, and all Donnie's family,

I was in Donnie's college class, and we have been friends ever since then. I have been trying for days to find the words to send you my sympathy and to let you know how dear and important Donnie is to us in the class... and to me. I simply cannot find the words. Language does not reach what is so personal and dear. He was so kind, so sweet, and fun and funny and thoughtful, and smart, and brave. And because I met him at such a young time, he's like a childhood friend. There just aren't words.

Freshman year of college, we were next door neighbors, that is, in view of each other on either side of a stair case. We became "Donnie and Marie" for the famed Osmond brother and sister. Ever since then, he's been the friend who has had my back, who's understood what makes me anxious, and who shares what makes me laugh. He's been the first person with a tremendous smile and a big hug when we meet again. Language has not the ability to communicate it. He knew how to love his friends. And of course we loved him back.

At every Harvard reunion and in between, we will gather formally and informally to honor our friend, to raise a glass to Donnie and to think of him. I guarantee that. He will always be dear to our class; because we love him.

I know that one of Donnie's favorite Scriptures is Proverbs 3:3: "Let love and faithfulness never leave you." He lived that so well in his life. Where words cannot go, light shines. I believe in my heart that his wonderful light, which has touched so many, will be with us, always.

I send my deep sympathy, and my love,
Marie H.

My heartfelt condolences to you Mr. & Mrs. Frederick. I cannot express the sorrow felt with Donnie's passing. My heart is still aching. He was truly one of a kind. Donnie and I met in North Pole at school. He was the older brother I never had and always a phone call away, for any reason. Donnie was one of the kindest, courageous, compassionate, and supportive people I have ever met. He touched so many people's lives in a wonderful way. Our North Pole Patriots family will never be the same. He was our glue that brought us all together in so many ways. He would always ask me to show him where the moose were. Whenever he was in AK we would drive around until we found them. At the fair, I couldn't pull him away from the cream puff stand. He even asked me to overnight them to him in Colorado. He was a wonderful man and I was truly blessed to have known him. I pray you both find comfort in knowing how loved Donnie was and is by his friends everywhere.

I was one of Donnie's 7th grade teachers at North Pole Jr-Sr High in my first years of teaching in Alaska. He stood out as one of the most personable and talented students of all my 25 years of teaching. He reached out to me after many years of no contact, and I was so happy to reconnect with him. His light shines brightly on those who knew him. I will never forget his loving spirit and all the good that he spread far and wide.

My heart hurts after learning of the passing of one of the kindest, and brightest guys I've ever had the honor, and pleasure of knowing. Donnie was a friend from North Pole High School, who I had lost contact with until one fine day several years back when he sent me a friend request on Facebook. That lead to some long conversations, and over time, some pretty heated exchanges over political differences of opinion. Maybe he was correct, or perhaps it was me, but that really doesn't matter, just as long as we didn't let it get in the way of a long time friendship. Donnie will be missed by the thousands of lives he has touched, and we are all better people for having known him. Christmas will now always be that much more special for me. May you rest in peace, my friend. I love you, buddy!

Words cannot express my sorrow at Donnie's passing. I am a college classmate of his (we both lived in Leverett House). We also shared a passion for hockey, and some of my favorite memories are of attending hockey games with Donnie and our merry band of hockey fans, cheering our team on to victory. I fell out of touch with Donnie after school ended, but like many others, reconnected after our twenty-fifth reunion. He was at the heart of many physical and virtual friendships among our classmates, and through his passion and joy, helped bond another merry Harvard band. I feel sure his light, warmth, and kindness will continue to shine as a beacon among those of us honored to be called his friends. He was a wonderful man, and we loved him so very much. My deepest condolences to his family.

My most sincere condolences to the Frederick Family. Almost 40 years ago, Donnie and I were in the NPHS production of the Wizard of Oz. I was the wicked witch and he was a munchkin. Though our paths rarely crossed in subsequent years, I followed his Facebook page and know that he was a tireless advocate for the vulnerable. He gave to others also by maintaining Facebook pages which enabled friends to keep connected across the miles.

In the midst of your sorrow, may The Lord be near and give you comfort. As you grieve, may it not be as those who have no hope. (1 Thessalonians 4:13)

OMG, my dear friends, my heart is bleeding for you and your loss, I would call you but I would spend the whole time crying and that would just get you upset.,
I just don't know what to say. You would think I would have the words down pat since I've lost some of my kids, but the words just won't come except I'm so sorry. I know that God is with you and will be during your time of grief.

Love you both, Siggi

Mo has been the biggest advocate in getting me the custody of my son. I have known him for over 14 years, and aside from him being my lawyer, he was a friend to my son and I. I could never repay all that he has done for my son and I. Mo, I'm gonna miss you, and I will think of you every time the Raiders play the Broncos. For you and you alone my friend, Go Broncos! I love you man.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Frederick, I am one of Donnie's HR'88 classmates, although I did not know him in college. I came to know him through our class's Facebook group and was able to meet him recently when he came to an alumni event in Washington. He was so warm and friendly in person, just as he was online. He helped all of us in the Class of '88 find connections we didn't even know we had. I send you my deepest condolences. Please know Donnie was a well loved member of our class community and will be missed.

Dear Mr. and Mrs Frederick, I wanted to extend my heartfelt condolences on Donnie's passing. Donnie was a wonderful human being. His strength in being able to open up about painful or difficult times created a space for everyone else to be authentic, to be honest about their own experience at Harvard and afterward. Allowing ourselves to be vulnerable is very difficult, but Donnie helped us to see the reward available on the other side: deeper connection with others and a more fulfilled life. I loved him. We will miss him very much.

Dear Mr and Mrs Frederick,

I was in Donnie's college class. We didn't know one another except via our reunion page on FB. Someone posted a picture from the memorial service at our 25th reunion and there he was standing behind me. It's too dreadful to think that he will be remembered at our 30th rather than a participant. I understand that he was your only child and I cannot even begin to imagine the depth of your grief. I hope that the many photos and memories that our classmates will send you will provide some tiny solace in this wretched time. To the extent that expressions of sympathy from strangers is meaningful, I send them to you.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Frederick, my deepest condolences to you on Donnie's passing. I was one of his classmates from college who was always appreciative of his presence in the world, for myself and also for the community in which I knew him. He was always a person of grace, compassion and support of others, even when he himself was struggling. He will be deeply missed. And while the world will be a darker place without him, our memories of him will always be a lighthouse for our spritis.

Dearest Don and Anne,
What a beautiful person Donnie was inside and out. From the first time I met him, I knew he was a special soul. My family has always loved you all so much. The countless times my dad (slats) told funny stories and we all laughed together, I will never forget those times. I remember little Donnie asking if I marry him when he grew up. The tears sneak from behind my eyes....behind those big eyes of Donnie was such a beautiful being. Pease and love to you all. Our hearts are with you all. Love, Terrie Taylor Phillips and Lou Taylor

As we celebrate Donnie, we may have heavy hearts and shed tears but soon after the memories bring laughter. As we all grew up together, North Pole High Patriots, we were a small school that generated life long friendships. Who can forget his roles in high school plays and musicals? The laughter, joy and friendship he gave, was unending and unconditional. He continued his support to NPHS by being a big part of the NPHS in Memorium and the Place of Grace facebook pages. Both being a heart felt endeavor. He loved his family and friends with a whole heart. You will be missed. To his family, please accept my condolences. I pray you find comfort in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father. I pray you find peace in knowing how loved Donnie is by friends, all over.
