Donald Coblentz Obituary

Colorado Springs native, Don Coblentz, 90, died on Sunday, May 7, 2017, due to cancer complications. He was the eldest of three children born to Bertha and Elmar Coblentz.

Don was a student at Bristol Elementary, North Junior High School, and Colorado Springs High School. Upon graduating high school, he received permission from his parents and enlisted in the U. S. Navy. After completing training as a Radioman, he was assigned to the Admiral's fleet for the remainder of World War II.

Upon his return from the Navy, he married his high school sweetheart, Sybil Diller, on June 1, 1947. After about 2 years as an employee of the railroad, Don and Sybil returned to Colorado Springs. Soon after their return, Don was employed at the Ross Auction House, where he remained for 40 years. He began his career there as a clerk, and with the tutelage of Jack Ross, learned how to become an auctioneer.

Don was predeceased by his parents and his wife. He is survived by his brother and sister, Al and June Coblentz, and his children, Ev Church, Kathleen Campbell (Rollie Wild), Donna Hines (Jerry), Michael Coblentz, Patrick Coblentz, and John Coblentz. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Julie and Matt Love, Erika and Chris Church, Mark, Joanna, and Mary-Elizabeth Campbell, Shannon Canfield, Colleen Layman, and Ashley, Don, TJ, and Krista Coblentz. He is also survived by 10 great grandchildren, Makayla and Blaine Canfield, April and Sara Rust, Jude Church Barry, Josiah Hansen, Patrick and Jace Coblentz, and Kaitlyn and Sean Layman, with another one on the way.

A memorial service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church on Sunday, May 21, 2017, at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Century Hospice.
