Donald Ellsworth Obituary

Donald Bruce Ellsworth was born February 2, 1927 in Caldwell, New Jersey to Donald and Ruth Mesmer Ellsworth and raised in Pocantico Hills, New York. He was the beloved husband of Nan Ellsworth, who preceded him in death. Bruce was the proud father of Bruce Ellsworth, Jr. (Gail) of Bayfield, CO, Elisabeth Davis (Charlie) of Castle Pines, CO, Peter Ellsworth (Patricia) of Lima, Peru and Missoula, MT, Charlie Ellsworth (Beth) of Denver, CO, Amy Goodbar Lee of Hood River, OR, and Bill Goodbar (Denise) of Mountain Lakes, NJ. His grandchildren are Lucy and Peter Davis, Camille and Caroline Ellsworth, Dylan Ellsworth, Sam and Jessie Lee, and Mitchell, Reed, Spencer, and Bradford Goodbar. Bruce is also survived by his sister, Nancy Cedarholm of South Salem, NY. Bruce served in the US Navy at the end of WWII and in the US Air Force during the Korean War. While attending Harvard University, he played in the marching band and was a member of the Hasty Pudding Club. He graduated in 1948 and was a loyal alumnus attending many football games, reunions, and meetings of the Harvard Club. Bruce came to Colorado Springs after graduation to work for analyst and investor B. Barrett Griffith and pursued a career in the financial world in Denver, Chicago, New York, and Colorado Springs, most recently as a partner of Huntley Thatcher Ellsworth, Ltd. Bruce was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, and served on the boards of Goodwill, the Colorado Springs Opera, the Giddings Foundation and the Cheyenne Mountain Country Club. He was also a member of the El Paso Club and the Pioneers Museum. Bruce's passions were his wife and children, tennis, opera, symphony, the Civil War, books, baseball, including the Rockies, and daily charting of the ups and downs in the stock market. He was loyal to his high school and college friends along with personal and business associates in Colorado and around the country. We will miss his happy spirit, dogged friendship, subtle sense of humor, kindness and gentlemanly ways. Donations can be made to Goodwill Industries, 2304 W. Colorado Ave., 80904. There will be a memorial service at the First Presbyterian Church on Friday, August 20, at 2:30pm.

I served with Bruce for several years on the Opera and Chorale Boards. He was a great supporter of the arts, a diligent and intelligent board member, and a very friendly and charming person. I will miss him.
