Donald Logan Obituary

Logan
Donald R.
Logan
October 2, 1930
February 2, 2023

Don passed away peacefully in Colorado Springs on February 2, 2023, with his wife, Marie Logan, and daughters, Laurie Hansen and Leslie Ramsay, at his side.

Don obtained his BS and MS degrees in Structural Engineering from Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania. After college, he served in the US Navy Civil Engineers Corp for four years and became involved with the precast/prestressed concrete industry.

In 1968, he founded Stresscon Corporation in Colorado Springs, and served as its President and General Manager until his "semi-retirement" in 2007. He then founded Logan Structural Research and was involved in research and consulting in structural design and stability of buildings during earthquake events. This research took him to Los Angeles, Japan and Turkey.

He helped found the Colorado Prestressers Association and was very active with the Precast Concrete Institute. At the PCI, he served on many committees and authored numerous articles for the PCI Journal. He was named as a Fellow of the PCI in 1997, and then later as a Titan of the Prestressed/Precast Concrete Industry in 2004. He also won awards from the PCI as well as the American Institute of Architects for his research, contributions and innovations to the industry.

Don leaves behind his wife of 70 years, Marie, his two daughters Laurie and Leslie, his brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Connie Logan, two sons-in-law Byron Hansen and Bill Ramsay, four grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He will also be missed by many structural engineers whom he mentored. Many of his former employees will fondly remember him as a fair and generous employer who afforded them many opportunities for growth and professional development.

Born and raised in Vineland, New Jersey, Don moved his young family to Colorado in 1962, for new opportunities and his love of skiing. He also enjoyed tennis, hiking, biking and sailing on Lake Dillon. He loved to travel with Europe and Mexico as frequent destinations. Don loved discussing wide ranges of topics including World War II, travel, structural engineering, sports, movies and had an incredible memory for details.

Don's family will be holding a private Celebration of Life this summer, in Dillon, Colorado where he had countless adventures with his family and friends. Don lived a very full life, and his immense presence will be missed by all who knew him.

In recognition of Don's earthquake research in Turkey, memorial donations can be made to the Red Cross for "Turkiye Earthquake" aid, or the Turkiye Earthquake Relief Fund by Bridge to Turkiye, or a charity of the donor's choice. Links to the donation websites are available at swan-law.com
