Donald Ronca Obituary

Donald J. Ronca
The Lehigh Valley is mourning the passing of the contractor Donald J. Ronca, 78, of Bethlehem, who died on Friday, February 21, 2014. He was born and raised in Fountain Hill, son of the late Phillip and Anna Ronca. He was a member of St. Ursula Catholic Church. Don Ronca was an unusually hard worker, a contractor and developer for his entire life, beginning as a boy working with his father and brothers. His jobs touched much of the Lehigh Valley and surrounding areas as his many talents extended from large commercial building projects, to flood restorations to minor house renovations. His signature work can be seen in the many homes in Fountain Hill where he grew up, or all around Bethlehem, where he was recently recognized for his re-development of the now Abbe Hall Personal Care Home. Many in Bethlehem also know Donnie as the former owner of the Tally-Ho Tavern, as well as other buildings in south Bethlehem which he had renovated to support improvements to the area. For similar work in Allentown, he received the Mayors Award for Housing Rehabilitation & Community Revitalization. Don Ronca was a talented architect and artist. He loved to cook, entertain and tell stories of his life with family and friends. He lived life to the fullest, always with a positive attitude looking for the best in people, and many of those people responding with similar fondness. He will be missed dearly by all that knew him, remembered most often for his unbounded generosity. Survivors: He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Joan Marie Ronca, Maryanne, wife of David Groner, Donna Jo, wife of Harrison Shelton, Suzanne Ronca, Dorothy, wife of John Talago, and Kathryn, wife of Giovanni Landi; wife, Maryanne (Bilsak) Ronca; long-time companion, Donna Engel; sisters, Mary Anne Werpehowski, Lucille Seidenberger, Delores Ottesen and Anne Marie Cunningham; grandchildren, Katie, Zach, Anna, Kristina, Lia, Luke, Emma, Ava, Gabriela, and Gianna; and great-grandson, Nicholas. He was predeceased by his brothers, Martin and Alfred; and sisters, Helen Roeder and Dorothy Ronca. Services: Viewing hours will be held in the Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, on Monday, February 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. A 10 a.m. Mass of Christian will follow at St. Ursula Catholic Church, 1300 Broadway, Fountain Hill. Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675 (www.woundedwarriorproject.org) or to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231 (www.heart.org). Dave and Mare,
When Karen and I heard, a whole lot of memories came flooding back--as Mare, your Dad, was a calming influence for us during a stressful time--when he took the roof off our house! He promised it would be OK--and it was--nothing but a tarp over our family's heads for a week. God must have been smiling upon him then...and now. God Bless You and your entire family. A wonderful man is now in God's arms.

February 26, 2014

Dear Family: I am deeply sorry to read of Donnie's passing. I have so many memories when I visited in Bethlehem. We always had lunch with our cousins either at Tallyho or in Roseta. My memories go back to many years ago. Donnie's dad was my mother's brother. I live in Miami now for many years but I cherish all our family gatherings when I lived in Bethlehem. There are not too many families as close as us Roncas. My prayers & memories will always be !

Suzanne,

You will grieve for a short time, but you will be sad every time you think of your Dad. I still get sad when I think of my Mom. But that evolves into happy thoughts as I remember all the super things she did and the fun times we shared while I was growing up.

Love is a odd emotion. It can bring us unbelievable joy and laughter or sadness and bitter tears when things go opposite of what we hope for.

Let your grief play itself out as you are a human being and developed strong family ties as you grew up. Those will always be part of you - a precious part I might add. You lost your Dad but will always have memories of him.
We pray God will comfort you Suzanne, and that He will hold you in His loving arms.

May God continue to bless you and those you love.

A voice from the past

Donnie Al and I would go cruising
in his Dads new mercury very
yellow it was---he was only allowed to

use the Packard on prom nites---and to

you younger folks they were cars----
when ever I went to the house to meet

him his mother grabbed me by the neck

sat me down with a plate of pasta
I could tell lotts but won`t
but one thing I will share
One day Donnie and Al and I went

horseback riding ugh I didn`t want any

part of it I don`t even know if the

place is there anymore Patersons

Stables----So there we go we mount up

I`m in the lead Al is behind me and

Donnie is no where to be found---the

next thing Al and his horse are racing

past me the only problem is Al is not

on the horse his foot is stuck in the

stirrup and is being drug along the

ground----so I`m totally useless but

here comes Clint Eastwood (Donnie)

grabs the beast and saves Al

and knowing the way he was never

told anyone I`ve never been on a

horse since--We have had good lives

Donnie You on land and me on sea

farewell my friend until we meet again

Dear Dot and all of Donnie's girls, I am so very sorry to hear of the loss of your father. I know how very close you all were. He was such a nice man and would have done anything for his girls. I remember all the good times we had with him at the Tally Ho and the great clam bakes he'd host in the summers . He was truly a kind sweet man . I hope your memories and love for him will get you through this difficult time . God bless and please know I am thinking of you. Sincerely, Cheryl Didyoung and family.

I would like to thank everyone for the kind words and expressions of sympathy. It is heartwarming to know how loved my father was and how many lives he touched whether it be with his smile, a kind word, a story or just a helping hand. I will miss him more than words can express and my heart is broken. A part of me died with him and I will never get that back but he will remain alive through the wonderful memories my family and I have. Being able to work with him everyday allowed us to create a special bond that could never be broken and I am so grateful for that. He was not only my dad but my best friend and that was the greatest gift he could have given me. I love you Dad and miss you...what I wouldn't give for one more day with you! I must try to move on without you as I know your family was there at the gates to meet you and you are in great hands! Until we meet again with all my love, Mare XOXOXO
