Sexton
Donna Catherine Sexton
April 11, 1927
March 3, 2023

With great sadness and heartache we announce that our loved one Donna, passed away peacefully at home on March 3rd, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents Prosper John Lahey and Ellen Marcella ("Nell" Ryan), as well as four siblings, Mary, Helen, John and her twin brother Don. She is survived by her loving husband Marvin of 71 years, a younger brother Jim (Catherine) Lahey, five children: Stephen (Leslie) Sexton, Joan (Joe) North, Donald (Bobbi) Sexton, Dianne Sexton, Theresa (Scott) Keane, nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Donna was born on the Carmac Farm near Solomon, Kansas. She began her education in a one room schoolhouse called Cracker Box, continued on to Solomon High School, and finished with a Bachelor's degree in English and Drama from the Marymount Women's College in Salina, Kansas. During her graduation day celebration, she met her future husband Marvin, on the dance floor.
Donna moved to California to start her teaching career and married Marvin in Carmel, CA in December of 1951. Marvin left to serve in the Korean War, and upon his safe return they started a family in Vacaville, CA. In 1957 they moved to Colorado Springs.
Donna continued her career in education as a teacher at Corpus Christi Catholic School and at the historic Colorado Springs Day Nursery School. She was very involved at Corpus Christi Parish as a member of the school board, religious educator, Cub Scout den mother, Eucharistic Minister, and acted and directed in plays and melodramas as well. She and Marvin traveled near and far, and attended many social events with a great group of friends from this community. Donna, through her great faith in God, gave a lot of herself to this little corner of the world. She was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother, a creative teacher, helping the less fortunate, she has been an inspiration to family and friends.
In celebration of her life, a visitation and reception will take place on Thursday, March 16th, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Cappadona Funeral Home, 1020 E. Fillmore St., Colorado Springs. A rosary will be said at 6:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 17th, at 11:00 am, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2318 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs.

Dear Marvin, Steve, Joan, Don, Dianne, and Theresa, All of us (Jim, Sr) Lahey kids share your tremendous sadness in the passing of your mom - our aunt - Donna. The memories of all the good times we had as kids in your beautiful historic home on Tejon flood back. Donna was always gentle, generous, and welcoming to us all and obviously a wonderful mother given how successful her offspring (and your offspring) have become. It's hard for us in this generation to contemplate the adventures and challenges she must have had as a kid in rural Kansas navigating the Great Depression, the dust bowl years, and the years leading up to WWII, all while, somewhat uncharacteristically for the time I'm sure, obtaining a college degree and setting off on her teaching career in KS and that romantic far off land of "Cali". It's easy to say that she enjoyed a long and eventful 96 years, but she is gone far too soon nonetheless. Joan, it must have been extremely comforting to your mom to be able to enjoy your company and your care for the past years. Tough duty, no doubt, but a wonderful gift. My best to you, your dad, your brothers and sisters and all your extended families as you lay to rest this beautiful Irish lass from the plains of Kansas. Love you all, Jim
