Doree Taylor Obituary

Brunswick, ME-Doree Taylor, died Monday, January 26, 2009 at her home. Born December 5, 1911 in New York, NY, she was the daughter of Frederick Morgan Pike, Jr. and Alice Bemis Taylor of Colorado Springs, CO. Doree was a world traveler from an early age, having been taken by her mother and grandmother, Alice Cogswell Bemis, to France and Italy after WWII. Later in life she accompanied a young woman to a TB Clinic in Switzerland. Leaving home after her father's death in the 1920's, Doree established residence in New York City and a summer home in Southport, ME. She was very proud of the fact that Arthur Fiedler courted his bride and spent his honeymoon at her cottage, "My Regards", on Southport Island. In the early 1950's Doree and Muriel Andrews Babb made their home together in Needham, MA and Southport until the two ladies moved to Brunswick, ME in 1992. Doree survived a stroke in the Fall of 1992 and Muriel's death in 1997, after which Priscilla Sargent became her companion. Doree wished to travel and the two covered a lot of the world: from Alaska to Antarctica, From New Zealand to France and a fair amount of North America as well. Their last trip was in the Fall of 2006 to see the Polar Bears of Churchill, Manitoba after Doree had suffered her last two strokes. She is survived by her caregivers whom she loved and was loved by, Delores Jacobs, Jerri Kachinski, Priscilla Sargent, Mary Strong, Barbara Ward and Kathryn Welch; she will be especially missed by her three dogs, Ono, Moonie and Mi'Nuit. At her request, there are no services. Doree will be cremated and interred with her parents in Colorado Springs, CO at a later date.
