Doris Petersen Obituary

Doris "Janie" Petersen, age 74, went home to be with the Lord early on Thursday, September 13, 2007 at the Odyssey House with her family at her side. She was a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, nurse and volunteer. Doris was born on May 16, 1933 in Shelby County, Iowa to Earl and Lillie (Greve) Andersen. She attended primary school and graduated from Elkhorn High School. She then graduated from the Jennie Edmundson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1954. She married Thomas Paul Petersen on August 7, 1955 in Elkhorn. Doris was an Air Force wife and moved her family around the country with the Air Force. She was retired from Penrose Hospital. A woman of deep faith, Doris was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church where she was a worship coordinator and a member of the NOAH Group. She is survived by her son: Kevin (wife, Jacki) Petersen; her 3 daughters: Debra Mitchell; Lori (husband, Ron) McManigal; and Calle (husband, Kevin) Sims, all of Colorado Springs. She is also survived by her brother: Darrel (wife, Barb) Andersen of Anita, Iowa; and 2 sisters: Verlee Flynn of Kansas City, Missouri; and Diane (husband, Darell) Jensen of Kimballton, Iowa. Doris will be missed by her 11 grandchildren: Katy, Anna, Tessa, Lindsey, Maggie, Troy, Scott, Zach, Christina, Jessica and Matthew. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a sister: Lois and 2 brothers: Eugene and Roger. A Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 PM on Friday, September 14 at the Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel of Roses. A Graveside Service will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday at the Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 S. Hancock Avenue and the next day, a Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 PM on Sunday, September 16th, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 4925 Farmingdale Drive. A luncheon reception will follow the Celebration at the Church. Memorials may be made in her memory to the Odyssey Hospice Foundation, 4465 Northpark Drive, Suite 400, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80907. Blessed be her memory.
