Doris Rawls Obituary

Doris Westall Ciaffone Rawls passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, November 21, 2016 at the wonderful age of 95. She was born on August 23, 1921 to Charles M. B. 'Matt' and Ruth (Heimerdinger) Westall in Cornwall, New York.

Doris was married to Anthony 'Tony' Ciaffone for 24 years before he passed away in 1974. She was fortunate to have two loves in her life. Doris was married to Rufus 'Joe' Rawls for 16 years until his passing in 1999. Preceding Doris in death were her parents; her brothers Morris and Myron; her sisters Ruth, Marion and Grace; her daughters-in-law Terrie Ciaffone and Jackie Ciaffone.

Doris graduated from Cornwall High School, Cornwall, NY in 1939. She worked at Cornwall Hospital until her retirement in 1983. She loved gallivanting about, dancing, driving, going out for lunch, working outdoors, building fires (aka pyro-grandma), reading, traveling, and visiting with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter Susanne and son-in-law Dave Horaz of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her son Anthony Ciaffone Jr. of Dandridge, Tennessee; her sons Robert Rawls of Wappinger Falls, New York and Arthur Richards of Kingman, Arizona; four grandchildren, Christina & Paul Jones, David & Pat Horaz, Laurenda Denmark and Chris & Robyn Rawls; and many nieces and nephews whom she adored.

Grandma Doris was especially proud of her great-grandchildren: PJ, Aaron & Monica, Justin, Arianna, CameronAllyn, Karissa, Alex, Kaia, Jared, Jenna, Maia, Schuyler, Evangeline and her great-great grandson Connor.

In lieu of a funeral service the family will hold a private celebration of life. All who knew and loved her will be invited. Interment and memorial service will be held in the spring at Calvary Cemetery in New Windsor, New York. Memorial contributions may be made to Mattie Miracle Cancer Foundation, P.O.
