Dorothy Huber Obituary

Dorothy Jeanne Thornton Huber was born January 13th, 1924, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to George R. and Alice Reitz Thornton. She passed away on May 5, 2009, in Colorado Springs. Dorothy spent her early years in Colorado Springs and Manitou before attending South High School and Denver University, receiving a degree in Elementary Education. She was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority. She met the love of her life at a social dance while both were attending DU; she married William A. Huber in 1945. Moving to Colorado Springs, Dorothy and Bill had three daughters and established a home in the then-new Skyway Park area at the base of Cheyenne Mountain. During their years as parents, Dorothy taught piano and organ (Dorothy played with the Denver Symphony as a young child), while Bill helped run the family business, Thornton-Huber Orthopedics. Dorothy was an avid skier and bridge player. She and Bill enjoyed golf and an active social life through the Colorado Springs Country Club. Dorothy was active in her monthly book club and was a member of P.E.O. In addition to raising their daughters, Dorothy and Bill enjoyed traveling the world, viewing the fall Aspen, watching hummingbirds and tending their garden. She was deeply involved in the lives of her grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her brother-in-law Dr. Dave Davidson, her loving husband of 63 years, Bill, and her beloved Yorkie, Squirt. She is survived by her three daughters - Alisan (Keith) Peters of Jackson WY, Andrea (Jim) Fucillo of Lone Tree CO, and Joni (Bryon) Seymore of Prescott Valley AZ; granddaughters Jennifer Parker of Las Vegas, NV, and Larissa Fucillo of New York, NY; grandsons Nolan Risinger of Colorado Springs, CO, and Zachary Risinger of Chandler, AZ; and great-grandson Ethan Risinger of Phoenix, AZ. The family would especially like to thank the the Colorado Springs Fire Department and the staff at Memorial Hospital ICU and Emergency Room. Your tender care and understanding were greatly appreciated. Services will be held at Swan Law Funeral Home, 501 N Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO, at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 11, 2009. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Dear Huber Family,

As Dorothy and Bill's gardener, I learned so much in every way from both of them. There was so much love in that garden, and Dorothy knew so much about each plant and even researched things over the internet.

She raved about her daughters, sons
in law and grandchildren but was equally interested in my family.

Dorothy, I know, is looking down on her garden this year, and, surely, the heart of the family dwells there and in
her family and musical legacy.

She was a great beauty inside and
out, and I shall miss her dearly

Fondly,

Catherine Taylor (Lynn)
