Dorothy Lohr Obituary

November 24, 1923 - February 26, 2008. Dorothy Mae Lohr, a long time resident of Manitou Springs passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2008. Dorothy was born November 24, 1923 in Rockford Iowa to her parents Bill and Berneice Yerkes. She attended Rockford High School where she was an active member of the band. She went on to receive her business training at the American Institute of Business in Denver Colorado. On October 7,1944, Dorothy married Richard "Ned" Lohr. Ned retired as a Colonel from the Air Force Reserves in 1982. Dorothy and Ned owned the La Fon Motel from 1961 to 1975. Dorothy and Ned enjoyed camping and traveling as well as spending time with good friends playing cards. Dorothy was a member of the same bridge group for over 50 years. Ned preceded her in death in 1993. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Colorado Springs. Dorothy is survived by her daughters Carol Huffman of Manitou Springs and her husband Lance, Julie Lohr Andrade of Tiverton RI and her husband Tom, her son in law Bob Donner of Colorado Springs. Her grandchildren, Matt Huffman and his wife Leslie, Rhonda Huffman, Michael Donner, Janell Donner and Jackie Andrade, and her great grandchildren, Amanda and Sara Huffman, Eric Donner, and Ava Huffman. Dorothy lost a daughter, Deborah Donner to breast cancer in 1991. Her grandchildren brought endless joy to her life. Dorothy was always there to listen, give advice, tease and give a hug. She always thought of others before herself. She will be missed by all who knew her. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Monday, March 3 at Swan Law Funeral Home Chapel, 501 N. Cascade Ave, Colorado Springs. Inurnment will be at Evergreen Cemetery immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy's' memory to Silver Key Senior Services, 2250 Bott Ave. Colorado Springs, CO 80904. The family wishes to express their thanks for the loving care given to Dorothy by the staff at Brighton Gardens Reminiscence Neighborhood where she spent the last 2 months of her life.

Carol,
My deepest sympathy to you and your family. I have great memories of your mother, especially in High School when I worked at the LaFon, I am so sorry.

Bob,
I am so sorry to hear of your mother-in-law passing. I didn't realize that she would join Debbie in heaven. I know that Mrs. Lohr will still live on in all of the hearts that she holds dear. May the peace of God find all of you in this time of need.
