Dorothy Wanderer Obituary

DOROTHY WANDERER Dorothy "Dottie" Wanderer, 70, of Las Vegas, passed away March 1, 2010. She was born Aug. 2, 1939, in Seminole County, Fla., and grew up in Indianapolis, graduating from George Washington High School. Dottie moved to Daytona Beach, Fla., and then to Charlotte, N.C., where she was the executive assistant to the Charlotte Airport manager. She was then employed as executive assistant to John Holman, CEO of Holman and Moody, renowned builder of Ford race cars. While at Holman and Moody, she met and married Holman project manager, John Wanderer. Dottie and her husband first moved to Las Vegas in 1969. For a short time they lived in Tempe, Ariz., where Dottie attended Arizona State University. They returned to Las Vegas in 1974 where she attended UNLV. She was executive assistant to David I. Jamison, president of Las Vegas Convention Services, after which she received her realtor's license. They have two children, a daughter, Mara Emilie (Mathew) Stanger; and a son, John Phillip Wanderer. She is also survived by her sister, Patricia Stephanoff. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Clyde Parker; and brother, Al Parker. Dottie was active in many charitable organizations. She was named "Volunteer Mother of the Year;" appointed by Governor Bryan to the Governor's Advisory Council on Youth; elected president of Clark County Attorney's Wives; a board member of We Can, Inc.; a national organization combating child abuse; a lifetime member of Hadassah; a tireless volunteer at the Meadows School and elected president of Executive Women in Golf, a charitable organization supporting golf for youths. Dottie and her husband, John, a local attorney, pursued Dottie's love for golf and travel. She will be missed by all. No services are planned and Dottie will be interred in Florida.
