Douglas Blough Obituary

Douglas Duane Blough from Woodland Park lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on March 22, 2008. He was born on July 23, 1949 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and married Linda Gay Goldsby of Colorado Springs in 1986. She survives him along with two children: Justin and Amanda of Colorado Springs, two grandchildren Brayden and Bailey, his mother, Marge and stepfather, Ted O'Dell of Colorado Springs, brother Jeff Blough, sister-in-law Kathy and their children, Jessica, Nicole, and Elizabeth of Woodland Park; stepmother Jean Blough and her daughter Debbie Teeter of Sebring, Florida. Doug was preceded in death by his father S. Duane Blough of Sebring Florida. After completing his Master's degree in Visual Communications from Bowling Green University, he chose to move to Colorado in 1975 to start his own graphic communications firm, Barnstorm Studios, that later became Barnstorm Design/Creative. For 25 successful years he applied his talents as a graphic designer, copywriter, art director and photographer. In 2000 he sold the business and chose to work for an old friend and client as Communications Director at GMDC, a Global Marketing Development Firm. After six years, he found the 9 to 5 routine cramped his creative style, and chose to work on his own from home as Blough Visual Communications. For 20 years he was an active member and past president of the Colorado Springs Executives Association where he shared his well-known sense of humor and leadership. While he was a member in the Pikes Peak Advertising Association, he received many awards for artistic merit and the Silver Medal Award for his contributions to the industry. Doug enjoyed active participation at the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo Parade. Doug loved the outdoors and was proud of his early membership in the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. His many passions included hunting, fishing, golfing, and nature photography. His deep faith in God, nurtured since childhood, guided him gently with a heart of gold through a life of loving and loyal relationships with family, friends, and business associates. His light touched so many lives and will be profoundly missed. On March 28th at 3:00 pm a memorial service celebrating his life will be held at Mountain View United Methodist Church, where he chose to worship and actively participate. It is located at 1101 Rampart Range Road in Woodland Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to "The Blough Children Educational Fund" c/o U.S. Bank, 6th South Tejon St., Colorado Springs, 80903 / attn: L. Specht.

Linda,Justin and Amanda,
We were sad to hear of Doug's illness and death. He was a friendly and warm person who I enjoyed seeing when he picked Amanda up from Girl Scouts. Doug took our daughter fishing when she and Amanda were very young. Lucy still remembers that day as one of her most pleasant fishing experiences. Each of you are in our thoughts and prayers.
Love,
Rob, Faith, Dan and Lucy Jones

We almost got Doug to go with the fraternity group to Vegas recently. We all wanted to see him. Pam and I still have the oil painting he did for our first apartment. He helped me through my photography class at Bowling Green and we shared great times throughout our college days. You will be missed.

I will always remember Doug with a great warmth and love in my heart. My memories of him and my deceased husband Kris laughing together and sharing their love of The Steelers will always bring a smile. For a time life did revolve around the football schedule and when Doug could come over. In the world there truly are a very few really good men and I believe two of the best are together again looking forward to the next NFL season. They both want us to go on with our lives and be happy. My deepest sympathy to you Linda, Amanda, Justin and the rest of your very loving family.

The Blough Families,
Sandy and I had the honor of working with Doug at GMDC. His sense of fairness, compassion, and his love of life inspired all of the people he worked with. He will be missed, but the positive memories of his good works will sustain us and improve our lives.

I met Doug about 10 years ago...the first real cowboy I ever met.
Big, Funny, Generous, Honest, Warm and a man who shook your hand firmly and looked you in the eye...a smashing American bloke!

My thoughts are with his friends and family at this time.

Linda, Justin and Amanda,
Although I only shared Doug's life for a brief time in the '70's, his big heart and love of life was even then well-known. A life filled with family, friends, and faith is a life well-lived. My heartfelt sympathy,
Dr. Kathleen A. McGill (Gahanna, OH)

Linda, Justin and Amanda,

Doug was such a special person, truly an inspiration. People still talk with me about him even though he hasn't been at Barnstorm since 1999.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you in this time of mourning.

In the circle of life, we all will, at some point, come full circle. May the memories of this great man circle in your minds, and memories, until that one day, friends and love ones will once again be reunited in your circle of love.

Linda, Justin, Amanda --
Doug was, and will continue to be, a bright light to me and Bill. His quick wit, heart-felt laugh, BRIGHT blue (sparkling) eyes, cowboy hat, and most of all his huge heart is/was a true treasure to hold. We were honored to have known him and will continue to hold great memories of him. I am so sorry we cannot come to Colorado for the celebration but please know our thoughts and prayers go to you and your extended family and friends. May the brightest star in the night sky be the glimmer of Doug keeping watch over us all, making sure we are all getting along. With much love, Bill & Deb Minnich
