Douglas Ek Obituary

After a long illness, Doug died on December 5. He was an extraordinarily talented floral and interior designer whose creativity and love of beauty was best seen in the gardens he designed. Doug loved sharing fine wine, food, books, and music with his many good friends by whom he will be greatly missed. His dinners were legendary and only complete with dessert! Doug is also survived by his siblings, Pam, Diane and David and their families. A memorial service will be held at Sacred Heart Church, January 12, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Southern Colorado AIDS Project.

Uncle Doug~ You taught me to have a different perspective on the world. You gave me your passion for life and the beautiful things in it and I cherish the cooking lessons we had. You were taken away from us too soon but I feel blessed for the time that we had. I have wonderful memories and will smile when I think of you. Rest in peace and love, your niece, Amy.

Douglas - You will be greatly missed in our hearts, but we still have wonderful memories. I wish you could have made the trip to see the farm in the Spring like you wanted to, but now you can see it anytime from a better place. We all love and miss you.

How to begin, he taught me so much more than where to put each flower in an arrangement, he taught me to feel with my heart. My brother, my friend, a true confidant, we had so many conversations about life, love and a real way to be. He showed me Harry Chapin, I know you are in "A better place to be". i love you so much, pam

We will miss you Doug especially around the holidays! You always had a place open at your table for your friends and aquaintences. Loved your place when you decorated for the holidays and your cooking can not be compared to anyone for taste and presentation.
