Douglas Groninger Obituary

Groninger

February 2, 2024

After giving cancer all he could, Douglas Lee Groninger passed away at his home on February 2, 2024. Born September 26, 1940 in Logansport, Indiana, to Hal and Mildred Groninger. Doug enjoyed, as he often said, an idyllic childhood with his sister Jane and his twin brothers Garry and Larry. His work ethic, athletic pursuits and his participation in student government prepared him for a life of accomplishments.
Doug graduated from Camden High School and later earned a BA in business from Ball State University where he was commissioned a Lt. as a cadet officer for the 230th Air Force ROTC wing at Ball State. After pilot training, he was deployed to North Vietnam and proudly and bravely served his country earning numerous awards, among them, Distinguished Flying Crosses for "extraordinary achievements in aerial flight." When defining a vet to his grandson Gannon, he once said, " A vet is someone who has been shot at day after day and has sacrificed so much for freedom. When you are in the Air Force, you are the tip of the spear."
Doug retired from the Air Force in 1984 and started Groninger Concrete. Under his management, the company flourished, and when he retired, he passed the mantle to his children who have continued the legacy of excellence.
Doug is survived by his children Douglas Parks Groninger (Kimberly), Mara Noell Groninger, Lee Douglas Groninger (Monique); their mothers, Carol Mylar and Rhonda Groninger; his grandchildren Allison Thompson (Ben), Paige Groninger,
Brooke Groninger, Gannon Douglas Norris, Turner Parks Whitney, Bryce Groninger, Addison Groninger, Olivia Anne Lopez, Connor Lopez; great-granddaughter Carmina Joy Heredia; his sister Jane and twin brothers Larry and Garry; and his best friend and loving companion Cami.
Doug was a kind and most tender-hearted man. He was a wonderful father and grandfather. Although he had no filters, he found the goodness in everyone he met and was loved by all.
The pain we feel is the price we pay for loving him.
Goodbye, Boss; until we meet again-

Doug was a man of very high standards, and had a lot of respect for his fellow citizens as well as the many other people he worked alongside during his business career, so grateful for his kindness! He was a great person!

Doug was a very good man! Proud to have known him since 1985. I worked for Doug some 25+ years ago and found him to be a very kind, bright, caring, and funny person. He will be missed...
