Douglas Woods Obituary

Douglas R. Woods of Windsor passed away at his home on February 1, 2016 after a 10-month battle with mesothelioma cancer. He was 62. Born on March 9, 1953, at Presbyterian Hospital in Denver, CO to father Delbert R. Woods and mother Harriet L. Woods, Doug graduated from Denver West High School in 1971 and attended Colorado State University, graduating with distinction with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1975.

A beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend to many, Doug worked in the Colorado banking sector for more than three decades starting at United Bank of Denver before moving to Colorado Springs in 1995 where he served as Senior Vice President, Region Business Banking Manager of Wells Fargo and as Group President of Great Western Bank/First Community Bank. In 2011, Doug moved to Fort Collins to become President of Capital West Bank before finishing his career as President of the Fort Collins Market for Colorado Business Bank.

Always committed to community, Doug served a number of organizations including the Fort Collins Chamber LLAC and the South Fort Collins Business Association. He was the Chair of the Pikes Peak Behavioral Health Group Board and Chair of the Assets for Youth Board in Colorado Springs. He was a board member of the Colorado Springs Downtown Partnership, of the Greater Colorado Springs Chamber, and of the Hispanic Chamber. Additionally, Doug was an active member of Leadership Pikes Peak and of the United Way Leaders in Giving in Colorado Springs.

An avid fan of Colorado State University athletics and a student of golf, Doug taught himself the game and worked his way to a 4.8 handicap over the decades, finally hitting his hole-in-one in April of 2015. A member of Country Club of Colorado in Colorado Springs and Harmony Golf Club in Timnath, he accomplished a life-long dream of playing the golf courses of Ireland in 2008. A connoisseur of Irish whiskey and a good tequila shot, Doug was best known for his kindness, his honesty, his humble nature, a hard-working intelligence, and for the mentorship that he brought to so many throughout his life. Mostly, he will be remembered for his commitment and dedication to family, to friends, to career, and to the communities in which he lived.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Lisa) Woods, his daughters Hallie (husband Jason) Kosena, Meggy Marlo Woods, and Alexa Woods, his grandson Parker Douglas "P.D." Kosena, and his brother Donald (wife Terri) Woods.

Memorial services will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 2000 Stover St., Fort Collins, CO 80525 on February 11 at 2 p.m., with a reception to follow. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the COBIZ CARES Foundation, 821 17th Street Denver, CO 80202.

It's been 7 years since Doug's passing and I think of him most every day.

We met in college and became good friends almost immediately. After college we played golf and softball almost every week in the summer. Softball ended and golf became our sport of choice (especially Doug's).

Doug was one of the most competitive people I've ever met and also one of the most humble. Quick with a "good hearted" jab then later followed by words of encouragement.

He was very committed to his family, friends and his community. Thankfully he found the "love" of his life and soulmate in Lisa.

I believe if you look up the word "good person" in the dictionary it would show you a photo of Doug Woods! He was truly that person.

Lisa, his beautiful daughters and friends have great memories of his life and deeds. We miss him dearly!

Doug was one of those few very special people that come into your life very rarely. His gentle personality, wise advice and wicked sense of humor were some of the traits that we so admired. We loved being around him and Lisa. They were so in love and such good friends. We never had anything but good times with these special people. We feel so blessed that we were able to be a part of their lives. We are hurting for Lisa and for Hallie, Meggy and Alexa. We cannot imagine the hole in their lives with him gone. Many tears and prayers are with them during this most dark time.

One did not have to know Doug well to know that he was a man of high integrity, value, and was committed to family, his profession, CSU, and the community. God's peace

Doug was a much loved neighbor of ours in Colorado Springs. We were so sad to hear of his passing. Bill and Doug spent many hours watching across the street as they mowed lawns together every Saturday. Talk about a loving Father....that was Doug Woods. His daughters and our daughters spent many hours playing house and putting on puppet shows in the basement. Doug was always there to enjoy the show and help with the clean up. He has a special place reserved in Heaven right now. Rest in peace dear friend and thanks for the many memories.
