It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved brother, uncle, cousin, friend and partner, Duncan Mac Alester Eyre II. He continued his journey September 14, 2024, surrounded by his devoted family. He is survived by his sister, Helen Eyre Hazelton, her husband Bill, his long-time partner Dayna Anderson, his dearest friend, Karl Becker, his many cousins, nieces and nephews, and especially his great-nephew and namesake, Samuel Duncan. He is preceded in death by his parents, Duncan Mac Alester Eyre Sr. and Norma Easley Eyre and his brother, Carl Ralph Mazzillo. Duncan was born on June 9th, 1964 in Colorado Springs. He attended Steele Elementary and North M.S. He also attended one year of middle school in Liverpool, England at a maritime school, while living with his family. He later graduated proudly from the New Mexico Military Institute. After graduating, he served in the United States Marine Corps. Duncan spent his career as an international flight attendant for Continental and United Airlines. He loved serving others and traveled the world, from Rome to China, Australia to India. He was gregarious and had many friends with whom he traveled with and worked alongside.
While based in Newark, New Jersey, he became a vocational Franciscan Friar. He made it his mission to greet large container ships that docked in New Jersey, welcoming foreign workers on the ships and helping them with calls to family back home, needed supplies, and spiritual support.
After retiring from the airlines, Duncan came back home to Colorado Springs to be with his family. He found his way to the Broadmoor Hotel where he worked as a Head Doorman. He loved using his hospitality skills in welcoming guests, just as he had done for the airlines and the foreign workers on the docks of NJ. He loved the Broadmoor and felt honored to serve there. Those who had contact with him were touched by his kindness, generosity and charisma. He made those he met and spent time with feel they were important to this world. He was wickedly funny and irreverent at times but cherished people and loved life. He was special to those he left behind and he will never be forgotten. We will hold him in our hearts until we meet again.
In his memory, when meeting a stranger, greet them kindly and help in brightening their day. Please, also consider donating to The
Wounded Warrior Project.
The family would like to thank all of the wonderful nurses and doctors at Pikes Peak Hospice who helped care for Duncan.
A memorial service will be held at Grace and St. Stephen's Episcopal Church on Saturday. June 14th at 1:00 p.m. Reception immediately following.
