E. Hill Obituary

E. Kent Hill

December 25, 1933

December 4, 2021

(Edwin) Kent Hill was born Christmas day, 1933 to Guss and Mildred Hill, in Colorado Springs. God called him to his heavenly home on December 4, 2021, just shy of his 88th birthday. He was a lifelong local resident.

Kent was a most loved and respected gentleman. He was loved for his gentle, kind, generous and thoughtful spirit. He was respected for his stellar integrity, constancy of character, devotion to God, family, friends and church. His commitment to his Christian faith was the foundation for his actions. He shared his passion and talents as an educator in all areas of his life from his growing family, to leadership, teaching and service to his church, to teaching, coaching mentoring, student organizational leader and school administrator in District #11, primarily at Wasson High School.

Kent was an absolutely passionate student of strategy and statistical elements of all sports, especially his favorite, baseball. His love of sports included: participation, coaching, reading about and being a spectator. He excelled as a player, playing two years in the College World Series for his college (CSCE/UNC). He was a great fan of the Yankees since childhood and the Rockies once they came to Colorado. He was an avid fly fisherman, spending many hours with family and friends in pursuit of a time together by a lake or stream. He exceled at and enjoyed playing tennis; it was an opportunity to compete and be with friends.

He graduated from Colorado Springs High School (now Palmer) in 1952. He married his high school sweetheart, Betty Lee Berry, while in college. Kent served in the US Army following his college graduation from Colorado State College of Education (now UNC) and he earned his Master's degree from The Colorado College. In retirement he was a Sales Rep for the Sanborne Souvenir Co. where he was able to enjoy traveling around Colorado and meeting new people. He was an excellent tour guide to his beloved city and state, teaching and helping others appreciate our history and development.

He was the beloved patriarch of his family, loving, mentoring and supporting and having fun with four generations. His wife of 67 years was well loved and a cherished partner, and his extended family was ever on his mind. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, David Hill. He is survived by his wife Betty Lee (Berry) Hill, sons Garry (Sue), Steven (Maryann), five grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren, sister-in-law, Barbara, nieces and nephews.

I am so sorry to hear the news of Kent's passing. He was a good man I aways looked up to. I thoroughly enjoyed the visit we had when i was home visiting my mom. (2007, time flies)

I had the privilege of working with Kent at Wasson beginning in 1985. As a counselor there, I was able to work closely with him in the scheduling of classes and students. What a warm and wonderful man he was! He was a great example of integrity and compassion to everyone who was fortunate enough to know him. He cared about the students, parents and staff at our school and did all that he could to contribute toward creating the absolute best environment for teaching and learning that he could. He made me a better educator through the influence he had on me during the time I got to work with him.
