Earl Ballard Obituary

Earl Larry Ballard, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend, Earl Larry Ballard (born Earl Roach), 62, passed away unexpectedly on August 1st, 2006 in his home in Colorado Springs. Earl was born on December 11th, 1943 in Denver, CO. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ballard; mother, Betty Ballard; brothers: Curtis, Ernest and his beloved baby brother, George; his children: Penny and Patrik Ballard; his step-children he raised as his own: Paula Turner, Perry Matheny and Patsy Pierce; stepdaughters: Christine, Antoinette and Juanita; his son's from a previous marriage: Earl Jr., Kenneth, Anthony and James; his grandchildren: Christopher, Jonathan, Symone, Talon, Courtney, Lanie, Ashley, Brittany and several step-grandchildren and great grandchildren, who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Ballard and his brother, Irwin Ballard. Earl grew up with his family in the mountains in Colorado, he joined the Navy at age 17, and served his country in Vietnam. He was stationed for several years at Port Hueneme Naval Base outside San Diego, CA., where he raised his children and worked retail. We almost lost him the first time when he was shot during an attempted robbery. He came back to us and we came back home to Colorado Springs, where he continued to work in retail management until the day he passed. Earl was a hard working, fun, loving man who is so loved by his family and everyone who came in contact with him. He was a very proud family man and a good friend. He loved to work in the yard and garden, and passed that passion on to several of his children. He loved Colorado and the mountains, and proudly took his family on drives to the mountains to show off his childhood home and one room school house where he was raised. Due to his injuries, he could not pursue his dream of being a tour guide of this beautiful country he loved. We will miss his strength, love, compassion, teaching and guidance. Memorial Services will be held at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home at 3825 Airport Road, on Monday August 7th, at 1:00 p.m.

My Oh My, Earl will be missed. I had the opportunity to meet Earl at the corner store where he worked on Palmer Park Blvd. Earl was a great guy. He always treated me with respect and courtesy. He had come to know my children and he treated them the same. I was very saddened to hear this news. Mr. Earl will truly be missed. To the family I say, Stay Strong and Encouraged because one thing I know...Mr. Earl's loving ways will linger forever and I'm sure he is in Heaven smiling and helping others. God Needed him there. May the Lord keep all of you close in his arms as you mourn your loss.

Earl was one of the greatest men that I ever knew. He had a heart of gold and loved his wife who he called his angel very much. He would tell me the greatest stories of his life. Earl and I worked together before he passed away. We at Tobacco Outlet loved him very much and he will be missed dearly. Our love and prayers go out to Earl's family during this difficult time.
