Eddie Metzger Obituary

Ed Metzger, age 60 passed away unexpectedly at home on April 22, 2008. He was born February 21, 1948 in Schwabach, Germany and lived in Colorado Springs for 54 years. He graduated from Wasson High School, Class of 1966, and shortly thereafter was drafted in the Army. He served in Vietnam in 1968 as a replacement infantryman of the historical battle of Hamburger Hill with the 173rd Airborne Combat Brigade and in 1969 with the 82nd Airborne Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. He received numerous medals including the Combat Infantryman's Badge. Ed was also a lifelong member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a United States Postal worker for 20 years, and in 1993, became self-employed and owned Grasshoppers Lawn Care until his retirement in November, 2006. Ed enjoyed weightlifting and body building. In 1965, he placed second in his weight division at the Teenage Colorado Championship Power Lifting Event. His favorite passion was music. He enjoyed songwriting, piano and guitar. Ed and his life-long friend, Bob Rosamond, performed at private and public concerts for many years. We will never forget Ed for his love and devotion to his family and friends. He gave so much of his life to help others, and never expected anything in return. He was a mentor, a philosopher and inspired us to "never give up". We will cherish our conversations and the time we spent together. Ed was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth; father, Donald; sister, Patricia; and great aunt, Anna Waeber. He is survived by his wife, Melinda; daughters, Stephanie, Rachel, Melissa; son, Joshua; and four grandchildren. Also surviving are brother, Jim (wife, Sheri), Tom and Dennis along with several nieces, nephews and many, many friends. A celebration of Ed's life took place on Saturday, May 25 at his home. The Metzger family wishes to thank all those who attended.
