Walter H. Schlatmann Sr., 87, of Toms River, passed away Monday, Nov. 3, 2014, at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Walter was owner/operator of Walt's Tree Service, Toms River for 70 years before retiring. Born and raised in Jersey City, he resided in Whiting and Toms River. Walter was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church, Whiting. He was a member of Toms River Pigeon Racing Club. He loved the NY Mets and the New York Giants. He also loved fishing and crabbing. His favorite boats were the Gambler and Sea Devil. His real love was for horses, he owned a Tennessee Walker and as a teenager, he rode in Gene Autry's Rodeo Show. He enjoyed singing and was a terrific yodeler. Walter was predeceased by his wife, Patricia in 1993. He is survived by 2 sons, Walter H. (Skip) and his wife Kathy of Cleveland, GA, and Michael of Fort Wayne, IN; 2 daughters, Caroline (Cari) Schlatmann and her husband Robert of Sea Cliff, NY, and Kathleen (Kathy) Theimer and her husband Edward of Akron, OH; his sister, Dorothy Norkus of Dunedin, FL; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews. Viewing from 2 to 4 p.m. & 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, 2014 and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014 at DeGraff Lakehurst Funeral Home, 119 Union Ave., Lakehurst. Funeral Mass 10 a.m. at St. John's R.C. Church, 619 Chestnut St., Lakehurst. Burial to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Toms River.
